Passed my comps and am now officially a PhD candidate!!! 💃🏽

Passed my comps with major revisions.

I knew I was gonna get dinged for not focusing on “disparities.”

I’ve resisted public health in that regard & no longer wish to contribute to damage-centered narratives (Tuck, 2009).

We are more than our disparities & my PhD wasn’t dependent on deficit lenses

I just finished and submitted my comp exams. I want someone to swaddle me, pat my butt, wipe away my tears and tell me everything’s gonna be okay 😭

I got knees popping like a damn glow stick, and I’m over here wanting knees like Honey Balenciaga and Ciara.

I don’t use a reference manager because I like to stress myself out manually inputting them 😅

I swear to goodness I have to be the one Hawaiian who’s never received any help from KS 💀

I been dating someone who reflects both the strongest and softest parts of myself. & y’know how they say you attract your energy? Well, I think I’ve genuinely attracted someone who I don’t even have to explain myself to.

And honestly, I’ve never felt so seen, vulnerable, and accepted in my life.

People trip out bc I work with individuals experiencing homelessness, incarceration, mental health/substance use, child welfare & it’s bc I’ve been through it too.

I work in spaces & with people who walked similar paths as me & that’s nothing to trip about. I’m no different than the people I serve.

With public health being obliterated, please remember COVID is still around and we got bird flu and measles to worry about now.

I found a word I don’t like.

Pragmatic.

I feel like it should be pragmatistic.

I make the words extra. I make the words sassy. It’s needs that extra-ness for my brain to comprehend.

I thought that I was stronger to do this, but I’m not. No one talks about the burden of being the oldest daughter, and while I love and care for my dad, this is mentally why I question whether I can ever come back home or should ever be back home. I don’t feel like I belong here anymore.

I think coming home was a mistake. I’m so triggered. I left home 2yrs ago bc my Dad wasn’t taking care of himself & threatened to shoot himself & I haven’t been back home since. Now, seeing repeated patterns of neglect is something I don’t wanna be a witness to. I just can’t.

I think I got used to being in negative temps that 77 degrees has me straight up melting.

Me too! I have a 6-year plan to be back home. People wanna hire me right when I pau with my PhD for a professor position and I’m contemplating about going back to academia to be able to come back home. OR I do my 6-year plan. I don’t know yet 🫠

You so cute! I hardly skeet these days since I’m tryna keep a lower-profile. I’ve been at queens all week and was so tired of being at the hospital. Things are looking better for sure, but it’s been a lot just within a few days.
