Dwight is a rural landowner in Two Hills, #Alberta.
12 years ago, he was forced to host a gas well on his land, on the condition that the industry fully close and clean it up when the well stopped producing.
That never happened.

BREAKING: Donner Resigns as Co-Chair of Canadaβs Net-Zero Advisory Body
University of British Columbia climate scientist Simon Donner has resigned as co-chair of Canadaβs Net-Zero Advisory Body (NZAB).
This resignation is worth noting. @simondonner.bsky.social is a man of impeccable integrity. If he is saying the process, and the politics, is compromised and broken, that does not bode well for climate action in Carney's Canada.

The notion that someone who is in their 20's can't have experienced climate change (supposedly due to an IPCC definition) is utter crap. It's embarrassing for a supposedly serious academic to be so disingenuous.

A history of poor performance
The Petra Nova facility began operations in 2017. The CCS equipment was installed to capture CO2 from a slipstream of the W.A. Parish Unit 8βs flue gas. The captured CO2 traveled via 80-mile pipeline to an oilfield near Houston for use in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) operations to increase extraction. Petra Novaβs target CCS capture rate was 90 percent. NRG claims it met the target.
But Petra Novaβs owners have never provided the actual data behind that claim. Emissions data for Parish Unit 8 reported to the EPA suggests the actual CO2 capture rate was substantially lower than 90%, perhaps as low as 65% to 70%. And the average capture rate does not include emissions from the gas-fired combustion turbine used to power the facility. Adding those emissions lowers the overall on-site capture rate to perhaps as low as 55% to 58%.
Petra Nova also was expected to be in operation some 85% of the time but failed to meet its target because so many technical problem
Petra Nova was an attempt to put carbon capture on a coal plant
THEY HAD TO ADD A FOSSIL GAS POWER TURBINE TO RUN THE CARBON CAPTURE

Three key points in my recent gov't testimony about Canada's climate efforts:
1) The 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan, though bolder than past plans, was not sufficient
2) That plan is not being sufficiently implemented
3) Good climate policy is in the long-term economic interests of Canada

Canada must be 'crystal clear' that surtax on Chinese EVs will stay, head of auto association says
The president of an association says the government must be "crystal clear" that it intends to keep its surtax on Chinese electric vehicles.
Not only should Canada look for ways to see more European models brought to Canada and bring back its rebate program, it should also lower Canadaβs 100% tariff on Chinese EVs in a balanced way, says @joannakyriazis.bsky.social.

Mark Carney introduces tariff-relief plan that includes pause on EV mandate
Carney will delay incoming sales mandates for zero-emission vehicles, and βamendβ regulations for cleaner fuels to help automakers and other businesses hit by tariffs and support the biofuel sector.
"This policy is one of the key tools that we have to cut carbon pollution in Canada. Especially after the consumer carbon price was repealed, this policy is going to do a lot more heavy lifting," says @joannakyriazis.bsky.social. #cdnpoli

EV sales in Europe from January to July 2025, compared to same period in 2024. The share of fully internal combustion cars is declining quickly. At the same time, Tesla is losing market share.
European new car-sales from JanβJuly 2025 were 59% battery electric, plug in, & hybrid, up from 49% last year. Fully electric cars rose from 12.5% to 15.6% of sales.
Big winner: VW & Chinaβs BYD. Tesla suffered a 40% decline & now has less than 1% of Europe share.

Alex Himelfarb and Craig Scott: A bad bill, and a goodbye
With support from the opposition Conservatives, the Liberal government is steamrolling Bill C-5, a bill of enormous consequence that will not get the serious scrutiny it deserves.
"This steamrolling of Bill C-5 will come back to haunt us. The failure to give Parliament the time up front will cost the country down the line given the divisiveness this bill has already engendered .... And the undue haste will no doubt cost time later in protests and legal wrangling." #cdnpoli

Climate Action Network Canada calls on Senate to send Bill C-5 back to the drawing board - Climate Action Network Canada (CAN-Rac)
The Senate is abdicating their vital role as the chamber of sober second thought by shortening the review process. Hearings of Bill C-5 start this week.
π« The Senate is fast-tracking Bill C-5βshortening their review & effectively shutting people out of decisions that affect them.
Bill C-5 jeopardizes democratic process, environmental protections, and Indigenous rights. The Senate must send it back to the drawing board.
