A 17c ceramic tile in the Islamic tradition from Iznik in Turkey, now in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. #tilesontuesday. An interesting image as it is similar to one that was popular in Christian iconography into the Middle Ages. This example in mosaic (12-14c) in Ss Maria & Donato in Murano.

Located in the ancient Roman site of ThΓ©veste (modern-day TΓ©bessa) in northeastern Algeria. It dates to the early 4th century AD, during the late Roman Empire.

The mosaic shows scenes of viticulture and wine production. Thee top register, workers are depicted pruning vines trained on trellises.

In the bottom register, figures are involved in the harvesting and pressing of grapes using a large wooden wine press. The vines are stylized in a looping, decorative manner, reflecting the artistic style of late Roman mosaics.

It stands out as an example of how Roman mosaics celebrated labor, nature, and abundance, often intertwined with broader religious or philosophical themes.
