This gathering brought together Indigenous leaders, experts, policymakers, and advocates to foster stronger collaboration — aligning science, conservation, finance, law, policy, and frontline action to achieve #Target3.

It was a privilege to connect with many of our valued partners and supporters, as well as participate in yesterday's dialogue, “Leveraging 30x30 to Protect Oceans, Forests, and Indigenous and Local Community Territories from Extractive Industries.”

Participants engaged in meaningful dialogue at both quantitative & qualitative levels of Target 3, exchanged national experiences, identified gaps & opportunities, shared concrete tools & approaches to support implementation. Participants also visited the Bang Pu Nature Education Center.

The workshop convened representatives from 11 countries, as well as Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, youth, women organizations and other key regional stakeholders, to advance the collective ambition of achieving Target 3.

A heartfelt thank you to all participants, partners, and organizers for contributing to the success of the Target 3 Regional Workshop for East and Southeast Asia, held last week 17–20 June, at the U.N conference center in Bangkok, Thailand.

5/5 We closed the day by celebrating the 2025 Blue Parks Award hosted by the Marine Conservation Institute to champion global excellence in marine protection. Congratulations to Cahuita National Park, Gorgona Natural National Park, Shark Fin Bay MPA Network, and Kahoʻolawe Island!

4/5 At our side event we held an insightful technical dialogue on how HAC for N&P tools — including the RDM and the 30x30 Matchmaking Platform, could enable countries to advance #30x30 implementation through both targeted funding and further coordinated collaboration with various partners.

3/5 Portugal's designation of the Gorringe Ridge MPA to increase national marine protection from 19% to 27% and Samoa's commitment to a national Marine Spatial Planning process aimed at fully protecting 30% of its EEZ and ensuring 100% sustainable management of its marine waters.

2/5 We welcomed numerous country announcements reinforcing global momentum: -Micronesia's landmark Marine Spatial Planning Bill to establish a transparent, legally binding process for national ocean planning, —strengthening the governance of the world’s 7th largest MPA network,

1/5 In collaboration with the Oceano Azul Foundation, the Governments of Portugal, Solomon Islands, Chile, Palau, the Waitt Institute, National Geographic Pristine Seas, IUCN, and the Blue Nature Alliance, we showcased inspiring progress on 30x30 and highlighted the critical role of partnerships.

3/3 As we continue our engagement during the remainder of #UNOC3, we reaffirm our commitment to working together — across governments, stakeholders, and sectors — to close the ocean protection gap and deliver on the promise towards reaching #Target3.

2/3 We also welcomed the successful launch of the Bloomberg Ocean Protection Gap Report moderated by
@ritazag.bsky.social Director of the HAC for N&P Secretariat. The Report serves as a timely and evidence-based contribution to the discussions at #UNOC3 providing clear calls to actions.

1/3 The momentum for collective action to protect the ocean is stronger than ever amid #UNOC3.
We're grateful to have participated in the World Island Forum — a valuable space for dialogue amongst island heads of state and representatives from all sea regions.
