06.10.2025 21:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Lot of people in the original post and comments complaining about kids and dogs at breweries, which totally makes senseβexcept Iβm on the other side of it and Iβm always taking my kids to breweries.

06.10.2025 19:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Letβs talk about βwhoa.β
First of all, βwoahβ is not yet considered an established spelling variant of βwhoa.β
While βwoahβ has grown in prevalence since the late 20th century, βwhoaβ is still about 5 times as common as βwoah.β

06.10.2025 18:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Krugman quotes Hannah Arendt for the principle that "authoritarian regimes donβt want competent people, who might sometimes take a stand on principle. They prefer 'crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty.'"

ICE abducts people and then immediately moves them around to prevent access to lawyers and habeas corpus petitions. @emmarjanssen.bsky.social has the story on this consistent game being played to frustrate due process.

06.10.2025 14:24 β π 10 π 3 π¬ 0 π 2In recent months Iβve heard an editor say, in a tone that suggested they assumed I already knew because it was something happening across the board, that it was hard to get readers to engage with immigration stories rn.
Immigration. In 2025.
If we want this fixed we have to fix it.
Paying for news helps, but itβs usually not sufficient, because those outlets are still making decisions all the time about what to cover. If youβre subscribing but not reading, or if what youβre reading isnβt what made you subscribe to begin with, youβre creating incentives you donβt want followed.
06.10.2025 13:44 β π 19 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0If Dems win in 2026, we need hearings to publicize the abuses by federal law enforcement. Then pass a bill creating a path to sue for those abuses. Trump will veto it. Let him. Let the public see these videos & hear from victims, & then learn there's no way to hold the abusive officers accountable.

you! are! a! lawyer!
I fear that the legal community will act like Trump admin's lawyers are normal lawyers--like they'll get nice firm jobs and their law schools will invite them to talk to students, etc--but the lawyers facilitating Trump's lawlessness should be professionally and socially shamed
That last detail breaks my heart.
