Keir Starmer is obviously not a very inspiring political leader but what is really happening here is that our political system no longer generates legitimate governments

What is the point? I live in her constituency and am a member of the Green Party - I'd love her to go green. I just see how it's difficult for her and think the greens locally need to work hard to show it can work...

I think it would be risky for her to quit without clear local indicators that Nottingham East would follow her to the Greens at the next election. For the Greens, that means campaigning in the local elections in May 2027 hard for councillor gains. But Greens have one councillor at the moment.

I’m always pro-disabled people leading what affects them but the reality is, many disabled and chronically ill people are paying a huge physical price for fighting tomorrow’s welfare bill. Many are suffering more pain and exhaustion from campaigning, all whilst in a brutal heatwave. 1/2

If you think that calling them terrorists, banning the whole group, handing prison sentences for road blocking are all new ways of treat protesters that are bad. Why say the youth are just whining about similar things happened to you and apparently just accepted.

27.06.2025 22:32 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Still now they're banning protest groups of against current, in going genocide as terrorists you continue to go on about the youth of today 'whining' .

27.06.2025 22:17 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Just to say that in 2022 they introduced prison sentences for road blocking. When you road blocked there was no prison sentence for it, just a fine.

Maximum sentence for criminal damage is 10 years. Trespass on such a site is a year. This is for protesters against a genocide throwing paint on a plane. I'm not sure what you think is enough to satisfy you. But point is why ban a group if your object is not to punish all kinds of protest.

27.06.2025 15:22 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

I understood that, but banning groups has the same practical effect when the group does a variety of actions - some of which you support (if I understand correctly). Why not - from your point of view - just enforce criminal law against people who did a criminal offence?

27.06.2025 15:09 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There is already a kind of injunction against breaking into an RAF base - it's called the criminal law which they admit has been broken. A ban on a group - that does a many different kinds of protests - is a much wider attack on freedom of expression and protest.

Labour’s great nature sellout is the worst attack on England’s ecosystems I’ve seen in my lifetime | George Monbiot The horrifying planning bill, which rips up environmental protections, was drafted with CEOs in mind. We know because Keir Starmer told us, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

It's hard to get your head around the scale of the environmental vandalism the Labour government is hoping to unleash. The Planning and Infrastructure Bill is up there with Trump's executive orders. And the reason is the same: corporate power.
This week's column.

As mass murder and genocide escalate in #Gaza, the UK government should denounce them, cut off all support to Netanyahu's government and assist in its prosecution. Instead, Starmer silences his ministers. In doing so, he facilitates the crimes.

Fully accept women's prisons etc are copies of mens. And that women's treatment by cjs is appalling. I just asked for the meaning of 'designed for' to be spelled out, as opposed to 'designed to punish'. It sounds like the cjs has been designed to meet men's needs which I would dispute!

Indeed, the consistency of the trend since 2015 is also notable. Here the same thing is seen but with the quarterly totals shown on different vertical axes.

That suggests macro-level factors are probably more important overall than anything the forces are doing.

If we survive the mask-off era, lets at least ensure that it's a pedagogical experience.

"Personal liberties" means absolute impunity for rich white men
"Free markets" means unfettered corporate power

The right's abuse of this language has been indulged for far too long.
