Good. They voted for this. Until the GQP caves and ends this shutdown by insuring that health insurance rates are not increased, and every other demand is met, then the Dems must not yield. The GQP's constituents are the ones suffering and they must press the case. Period.

And how would you suggest weaning Dems from their big donors? Career politicians need to feed at the trough or they can't mount campaigns. And with Citizens United and dark money, and lobbyists with wads of cash, how's that system going to be reformed?

She was a Trojan Horse in the Senate. Is anyone surprised that she parlayed that into a lucrative endeavor and is a TRUMP(tm) bootlicker?

Since Amazon helped fun the demolition, it's not a stretch that Bezo's WaPo would be all in on the Queen's ballroom. Welcome to the Oligarchy.

Cory Doctorow coined the term enshittification. Just sayin'.

Paywall. Probably an interesting report, but why have a Bluesky account that links to articles, if we can't read them?

"But the Times deserves special attentionβ€”partly because" of the prevailing myth that it is "the standard-bearing 'liberal' newspaper in the country."

There is nothing liberal about the NY Times. It is a corporate entity whose sole function is to play the middle and uphold the status quo.

Rounding up Japanese Americans in 1942 comes to mind. Jim Crow comes to mind. But, ya, an essentially totalitarian fascist state with Gestapo thugs and the militarization of cities is something new.

Whatever is left of the middle class in a service economy. And of course the wealthy prosper. But that's not what the OP is suggesting with a permanent shut-down, which, to my knowledge, has never happened.

Anything is possible. Then the stock market collapses and it's 1929. But worse. Trade ceases. The Military aren't paid. The mail stops. Planes can't fly. The internet ceases to be. Food production and distribution ends.
What possible advantage would there be in any of this?

I'm with Bernie on this and against the supine Dems who serve the interests of the donor class. He's no Trojan Horse like Synema. And Fetterman suffers from brain damage.
Platner is a stand-up guy. Watch his mea culpa about the Reddit brouhaha. There's a reason why he leads the polls.

I've been a supporter for months. These Senate Dems seem unacquainted with him. They certainly didn't watch his powerful Reddit mea culpa or his redesign of what he thought was a skull and crossbones tat. They seem afraid of him. Which is understandable given their supine and servile behavior.

The silence on this outrage is deafening. Either Dems are in shock (which makes no sense), or they don't care, or they're afraid to express any criticism (which does make sense). I can only conclude that their leadership is spineless, supine and can't even muster the courage to clutch their pearls.

Did not know that was a corporate funded destruction. Meanwhile, the Dems sit on their hands and refuse to talk about it.
