🚨ESCALATION ALERT🚨 Trigger warning: police violence.
Masked agents (including ICE) brutalized & kidnapped a community member at 14th & R St NW this morning. Agents tackled the man, tased him, pinned him down, hit him in the head repeatedly, and then other agents dragged him away. 1/

This is the DC police choosing to collaborate with the feds. Not being forced. Choosing too. Like they have consistently chosen to work with them for decades. Because there is no daylight between them, their tactics, or their violent goals.

To be clear DC police do this all the time, there are videos from 2018 of people sitting in front of their homes getting questioned and frisked. And it's clear right now that MPD is actively cooperating with the feds and even directing them on where to go

Federalizing MPD under Home Rule means Trump is in control of it for 48 hrs and can extend that control for 30 days. Congress would need to pass a law to extend further.
(As always, this depends on the law actually being followed and the mayor not just caving and agreeing to extend it in some way)

They are getting away with this because of the complicity and cowardice of DC officials and police. Black and Brown DC residents are in danger. It's up to all of us to keep each other safe.

🚨Federal agents swarmed DC last night (8/9) again. Feds from multiple agencies, including the DEA, FBI, HSI (ICE), ATF, Marshals, and Border Patrol, were seen at:

- Georgetown
- Navy Yard
- Shaw
- The Wharf

It's important to be angry about this and to also recognize that federal law enforcement is consistently used against DC residents. Figuring out whether the cop detaining you is Park Police, ICE, or MPD is a dangerous game many people have to continually play.
