π¨Federal agents swarmed DC last night (8/9) again. Feds from multiple agencies, including the DEA, FBI, HSI (ICE), ATF, Marshals, and Border Patrol, were seen at:
- Benning Road
- Bloomingdale/ LeDroit Park
- Deanwood
- Dupont Circle
- Georgetown
- Navy Yard
- Shaw
- The Wharf
It's important to be angry about this and to also recognize that federal law enforcement is consistently used against DC residents. Figuring out whether the cop detaining you is Park Police, ICE, or MPD is a dangerous game many people have to continually play.

DC HAS A LONG HISTORY OF RESISTANCE Old news articles, headlines and protest signs, including slogan "We Demand and End to Police Brutality Now" and headline "Cops Kill Five Every Year In DC, All Freed"
WHAT WE EXPERIENCED DC police responded to massive uprisings for racial justice with brutality and violence. The Brennan Center found that from 2020 to 2023 MPD surveilled and provided info to feds about participants in racial justice protests. The DC Army National Guard flew helicopters so low over protesters they produced winds equivalent to a tropical storm, a tactic used in war zones.
PROTEST AND RESISTANCE NOW If you want to talk about details of participating in or planning a protest talk in person or use a private, encrypted communication method like Signal. Use a password (not biometrics) on your phone and consider turning off location. Live streaming and filming can be useful, but be careful about the amount of details you could be collecting about other protesters. Try to attend with friends, and make a plan with someone not participating who can be available in case of emergency. Many things can heighten your risk!
