it’s basically trite to note at this point but if this were any other president, and certainly a democrat, spending a ton of money to gild the white house would be a legit scandal

Just touch grass and see what is happening in your backyard.

I dunno. I've just had Lots of Thoughts as I rewire my brain.

Small town living, small communities is where we need to start and less yelling into our palm computer.

(Yes we need to keep global in mind but also, we need here and now)

I just keep thinking about how we need to unplug. Sit outside. (LOL as I sit outside with my little computer). Talk to people. Observe people. Actually see the orange haze and enjoy the nice days. Roll the car windows down. Open the windows. Stare into space. Read a physical book (or eink reader).

(This may or may not be in direct response to the changes at the White House, but like, if we cared, we'd stop screaming into our little palm computer. Right?)

We all scream on this app about things but no one cares. No one is stepping up. We all look at our phones and scream about things and no one goes to the places we scream about or does a thing to fix what we scream about.

I am tired so I do nothing.

Been thinking if we spent more time outside and more time with windows open, maybe we'd think a little more about the environment and each other.

[Thoughts I've had because OMG I CAN HAVE THE CAR WINDOWS DOWN, but I also spent 3 hours outside at a work event when we had an Air Advisory.]

Knowing how to make stuff at all by hand with a human mind increasingly feels like being a master practical FX artist: decades of specialist knowledge that can wow anyone and was a great passion of my life to pursue, now mostly unwanted in favor of the β€œjust okay” we’re willing to tolerate.

As I have told close people and some internet spaces: losing the car to the straight winds in early July was a last straw but was the easy thing to handle.

It has prompted some stuff I have to finally deal with, and it's a LOT.

I am still at the "I can function for half the weekend."

DuckDuckGo has introduced a new feature allowing users to filter out AI-generated images from search results, addressing growing concerns over synthetic content overwhelming authentic visuals online.
The filter can be activated through a dropdown in the Images tab, search settings, or by using a dedicated AI-free domain: noai.duckduckgo.com. The system relies on curated blocklists, including uBlockOrigin’s Huge AI Blocklist, to detect and suppress AI-generated imagery.
While not perfect, it significantly reduces synthetic content visibility. This move sets DuckDuckGo apart from competitors like Google and Bing by giving users direct control over their exposure to AI-generated material.

...but because if everyone preps and then nothing happens, she will lose credibility and folks will come to view her as overstating the threat.

And then when the threat is imminent, no one will respect her leadership and listen to her guiding words.

Obviously I don't speak for everyone who was talking about it, but.

In Parable of the Sower, the protagonist gets on a prepper evangelism kick of her own, and her dad gives her a lecture.

He explains that she is gonna freak everyone out and needs to slow her roll.

Not because she's wrong...

I am exhausted. My own patrons, who 99% of the time are amazing, the 1% take so much.

Speaking of amazing, the patron who alerted us my car was damaged checked in on me and said that was their first day back since high school.

So many of my patrons checked in on me and I was/am in a bad state.

Conservative librarians exist and we deny they exist.

[Whispers]: Christmas Trees is a prime example.

In some ways, we need to start leading some charges to change big structural things (i.e. being the leader in this credit card thing or AI), but some of us are exhausted and some are happy for it.

We made this whole deal about how, during covid, the public would trust us to be safe and we knew what best practices were.

The public looked at us and demanded why we weren't open, safety be damned.

We have an image problem,
Amongst ourselves,
Due to not dealing with our own politics.

The stuff I learned in LS Undergrad to teach sourcing info? Gone.

I also think about how librarians think they are the most trusted people, but we never have been. The general population doesn't see us like that. They never did. They think we read all day (hahahahahaha, that would be awesome).

looked up the clip just because sometimes people change his words for captions that end up innocently reshared, but upon finding it decided to share the video because hearing him say it makes it 1000% more definitely true and everyone will listen/believe more than reading it written out

MORE fancy housing is being built along my route.

We don't need all this new construction when we have empty buildings and homes and people aren't housed, but also, we need open spaces. Omg.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced today that it will begin an orderly wind-down of its operations following the passage of a federal rescissions package and the release of the Senate Appropriations Committee’s FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-H) appropriations bill, which excludes funding for CPB for the first time in more than five decades.

For nearly 60 years, CPB has carried out its Congressional mission to build and sustain a trusted public media system that informs, educates, and serves communities across the country. Through partnerships with local stations and producers, CPB has supported educational content, locally relevant journalism, emergency communications, cultural programming, and essential services for Americans in every community.

β€œDespite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,” said CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison. β€œCPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.”

I wish a very happy β€œfuck you” to everyone who thought throwing trans people under the bus was going to stop these lunatics

Their goal has *always* been the eradication of the entire LGBTQ+ community, and they’re not gonna stop at Obergefell either

This is why we fight for *everyone*

Hopefully everyone already knows this, but probably don't upload your license and passport or scan your face to the app that's CEO now owns an A I-powered military drone company.

There are many other music streaming apps, and most of them pay artists better and also aren't invested in murder drones

It will always be a puzzlement to me why so many poeple in library leadership do not realize that human work IS the work the library does. It's the interaction across the desk, the decisions of the cataloger, the help at the computer, that IS what the library does. The rest* is just tools.
*ie books
