I dunno. I've just had Lots of Thoughts as I rewire my brain.
Small town living, small communities is where we need to start and less yelling into our palm computer.
(Yes we need to keep global in mind but also, we need here and now)
I just keep thinking about how we need to unplug. Sit outside. (LOL as I sit outside with my little computer). Talk to people. Observe people. Actually see the orange haze and enjoy the nice days. Roll the car windows down. Open the windows. Stare into space. Read a physical book (or eink reader).

08.08.2025 17:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We all scream on this app about things but no one cares. No one is stepping up. We all look at our phones and scream about things and no one goes to the places we scream about or does a thing to fix what we scream about.
I am tired so I do nothing.
Fobazi is currently in the ICU and could use your support. Apologies to those I havenβt been able to reach out to yet. You can message me for more info and I will be posting updates to GoFundMe. Please share, send healing thoughts, prayers, etc. β€οΈ -Elena

[Thoughts I've had because OMG I CAN HAVE THE CAR WINDOWS DOWN, but I also spent 3 hours outside at a work event when we had an Air Advisory.]
Can't you do delivery?

It has prompted some stuff I have to finally deal with, and it's a LOT.
I am still at the "I can function for half the weekend."
Post from "The Rundown" July 18 at 5:30β―PM Β· DuckDuckGo has introduced a new feature allowing users to filter out AI-generated images from search results, addressing growing concerns over synthetic content overwhelming authentic visuals online. The filter can be activated through a dropdown in the Images tab, search settings, or by using a dedicated AI-free domain: noai.duckduckgo.com. The system relies on curated blocklists, including uBlockOriginβs Huge AI Blocklist, to detect and suppress AI-generated imagery. While not perfect, it significantly reduces synthetic content visibility. This move sets DuckDuckGo apart from competitors like Google and Bing by giving users direct control over their exposure to AI-generated material. Source: TechCrunch

And then when the threat is imminent, no one will respect her leadership and listen to her guiding words.
Obviously I don't speak for everyone who was talking about it, but.
In Parable of the Sower, the protagonist gets on a prepper evangelism kick of her own, and her dad gives her a lecture.
He explains that she is gonna freak everyone out and needs to slow her roll.

02.08.2025 12:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I am exhausted. My own patrons, who 99% of the time are amazing, the 1% take so much.
Speaking of amazing, the patron who alerted us my car was damaged checked in on me and said that was their first day back since high school.
So many of my patrons checked in on me and I was/am in a bad state.
Conservative librarians exist and we deny they exist.
[Whispers]: Christmas Trees is a prime example.
In some ways, we need to start leading some charges to change big structural things (i.e. being the leader in this credit card thing or AI), but some of us are exhausted and some are happy for it.
We made this whole deal about how, during covid, the public would trust us to be safe and we knew what best practices were.
The public looked at us and demanded why we weren't open, safety be damned.
We have an image problem,
Amongst ourselves,
Due to not dealing with our own politics.
The stuff I learned in LS Undergrad to teach sourcing info? Gone.
I also think about how librarians think they are the most trusted people, but we never have been. The general population doesn't see us like that. They never did. They think we read all day (hahahahahaha, that would be awesome).
looked up the clip just because sometimes people change his words for captions that end up innocently reshared, but upon finding it decided to share the video because hearing him say it makes it 1000% more definitely true and everyone will listen/believe more than reading it written out

We don't need all this new construction when we have empty buildings and homes and people aren't housed, but also, we need open spaces. Omg.
E-books are on the line as Congress considers the future of library funding. Like checking out library ebooks? Congress, Trump could make it harder by cutting federal funding for libraries. www.usatoday.com/story/news/p...

01.08.2025 15:12 β π 166 π 73 π¬ 0 π 1The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced today that it will begin an orderly wind-down of its operations following the passage of a federal rescissions package and the release of the Senate Appropriations Committeeβs FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-H) appropriations bill, which excludes funding for CPB for the first time in more than five decades. For nearly 60 years, CPB has carried out its Congressional mission to build and sustain a trusted public media system that informs, educates, and serves communities across the country. Through partnerships with local stations and producers, CPB has supported educational content, locally relevant journalism, emergency communications, cultural programming, and essential services for Americans in every community. βDespite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,β said CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison. βCPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.β

It will always be a puzzlement to me why so many poeple in library leadership do not realize that human work IS the work the library does. It's the interaction across the desk, the decisions of the cataloger, the help at the computer, that IS what the library does. The rest* is just tools.
