It just hits me sometimes how much of my life was built on that utter terror that I hardly remember ever being without

It controlled so much of my life, whether I was trying to appease a god or trying to distract myself from what felt like inevitable hellfire

And I guess nobody noticed

No way to know, but I really wonder if I'd have even made it to adulthood if I hadn't been so afraid of eternal damnation
