The Alliance for Solar Choice
The Alliance for Solar Choice (TASC) leads rooftop solar advocacy across the country. We mobilize communities from coast to coast to empower energy freedom.
No bots here! We're just looking for rooftop solar users to engage with and hear how it's helped them save + ways it's benefited them. You can read all about our organization here: allianceforsolarchoice.com

Removing tax credits for rooftop solar and battery storage is massive step back! We should be encouraging and pushing for more clean energy credits, not canceling them. π‘

Electricity Should Be Free at Noon
And two other ideas for lowering electricity costs.
Here's a gift article version of my article in the Atlantic about how to lower electricity prices.

Three Ideas for Lowering Electricity Costs
For starters, recognize that clean energy is cheap energy.
Electricity prices are soaring while utilities rake in billions in profit. Here's three ideas to bring bills down:
1) Make power cheap in the middle of the day
2) Stop utility profiteering
3) Keep climate impacts off bills

CA and NV have DECREASED their year-on-year grid electricity demands by growing roof PV more than new grid demands (datacenters, EVs, heat pumps) have increased
CA has the 3rd-most data centers and by far the most EVs
Other states could take a lesson in how to avoid increases in grid demand

NEWS: #PUCN has decided to impose a ~$50 electricity bill increase on nearly 1 million customers in Southern Nevada. Where are our leaders? This is all so unnecessary.

STATEMENT: Despite having a clear chance to reverse course and stand with #NV families, the #PUCN chose to keep the deeply unpopular daily demand charge.
This vote came even after unanimous opposition from everyday Nevadans and consumer advocates who warned the charge violates #NV law.

Nevada regulators to review controversial daily demand charge for NV Energy customers
Nevada regulators are expected to review their September general rate case decision and NV Energy's controversial daily demand charge Tuesday after groups filed reconsideration requests.
π¨ JUST IN: Regulators will reconsider NV Energyβs controversial Daily Demand Charge, the same billing scheme that could penalize families for their highest 15 minutes of energy use each day.

The only people Xcel is looking out for is their shareholders.
17.11.2025 16:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Our grid needs more electrons and it needs them fast. Xcel's proposal in Minnesota is NOT the right way to do this. We should be letting the private market lead and deploy batteries for 1/3 the cost of what Xcel is proposing in Minnesota.
14.11.2025 20:40 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0
We need more batteries, but what we don't need are unnecessary and wasteful utility profits. That's the issue here -- the private market can deploy these batteries much more affordably than Xcel can. Take a look at the Colorado example.

Batteries are the future! California is doing batteries the right way -- without utility ownership. That's the issue in this case.
There are MUCH CHEAPER ways to deploy batteries that don't pad Xcel's shareholder pockets. That's the issue here. Look at the Colorado example in the story:

We need more batteries, but it's Xcel's profits that are the problem here. The private market can provide batteries much more affordably -- take a look at the example in this story from Colorado.

Batteries can modernize the grid, but skeptics say Xcel has profits in mind β’ Minnesota Reformer
Xcel Energy wants to place dozens of high-voltage batteries at commercial sites across Minnesota over the next few years.
Xcel wants to install high-voltage batteries across Minnesota for grid reliability and to support Minnesotaβs carbon-free power mandate. Skeptics question whether a program that Xcel estimates could cost as much as $430 million over three years is a good use of ratepayer dollars.
