The Guns
William Soutar

Now, on the moors where the guns bring down
The predestinated birds,
Shrill, wavering cries pass
Like the words of an international peace;
And I would that these cries were heard in every town,
Astounding the roar of the wheel
And the lying mouth of the news:
And I would that these cries might more and more increase
Until the machine stood still;
And men, despairing in the deathly queues,
Heard their own heart-beats
Shouting aloud, in the silence of the streets:
β€œAre we not also hand-fed in a wilderness:
What are we waiting for?”

My favorite doctor and companion (Nobody liked this the first time around but I don't care, Shirl and Heather would still be amazing)

A Lammas-themed collage combining Harvesting at Windsor (1795) by Benjamin West, showing labourers cutting grain near Windsor Castle; a 19th‑century painted ceiling medallion in the Passage du Caire, Paris, depicting Demeter (Ceres) holding a sheaf of wheat and cornucopia; and a photograph of red field poppies (Papaver rhoeas), an August birth flower linked to harvest and remembrance.

On 1st August, Lammas is kept as the loaf-mass, when the first bread from new grain is blessed in thanks for harvest. The field poppy (Papaver rhoeas), an August birth flower, is sacred to Demeter, Greek goddess of harvest, symbolising enduring love, remembrance, and consolation.

The best time to plant a tree in your yard was ten years ago.
The best time to build a wizard tower in your yard was five years ago.
The best time to sharpen your antlers and disappear into the mossy wilds is right now.

I'm curious how you read this. I assume the infants in the sky are babies that didn't survive, but the 2 women at far right look a bit less fully grounded than the others; do you think they might be representations of the dead too? And what about the two looking skyward?

Why is it in the kitchen in the photo? I mean, my parents grew up taking baths in a tin bath in the kitchen because that's where the water could be heated, but this photo baffles me. (But yeah, folding bathtub in the bathroom, definitely.)
