Sesame Street has done more than almost any other pop-culture source for good urbanism, urban design, mixed-use blocks, people-centred street design, place-making, “eyes on the street,” neighbourhood diversity, third places, and more. Every urbanist should support and say #ThankYouSesameStreet.

Here’s the blunt reality — reasonably-sized electric vehicles need to be the future of cars, but cars can’t be the future of urban mobility.

Fewer cars.
Less driving.
More inviting mobility choices.
Better communities and cities.

These are the 4 pillars of the REAL urban transportation solution.

If socialism means getting rid of the working poor, the growing underclass of desperate peasants that American oligarchy needs to feed their profits, if socialism means treating people decently and fairly, and valuing their life and labour … then give me socialism!

That is precisely why secret cult and cabals are such popular and enduring myths:

When life sucks, it’s much more exciting and romantic to imagine yourself in a battle of good vs evil that involves supervillains and thus the possibility of superheroes.

So […]

It doesn’t take a global international secret conspiracy to do so many of the awful things our world is dealing with right now, it just takes those people actively and independently pursuing the very goals and values they have openly espoused, using the wealth […]

Yeah, I’m an Albertan, and yeah: I’m mad about bike lanes!
I’m mad the #UCP won’t stay in their own lane and let us make our own decisions about something as basic and local as bike lanes.

My best gardening discovery of the last few years: Salanova lettuce. It is a head lettuce that grows in small bunches, but if you cut out the core it falls apart into "baby" lettuce pieces.

It is super easy to germinate, and holds in the heat really well […]

It's been 3 days since I put in these numbers and just to make sure I am super angry as I go to bed, I checked again.

There area now 8,093 Starlink satellites in orbit, out of 12,308 total active satellites. 1,243 Starlink satellites have burned up.

Ooof… that’s a figure I haven’t seen yet. I wonder how many tons of aluminum and pounds of rare earth metals and the like that represents, injected into our upper atmosphere. 😞

As the Covid virus exploits ACE2 receptors, we should look to see where those are expressed most in the body. … huh, look at that:

In Canada's Dauphin pilot where poverty was practically eliminated for an entire town for 4 years, overall crime dropped by 15% and violent crime dropped by 37% (most of it domestic violence).

In the Namibia UBI pilot where an entire village of 1,000 people got it, overall crime dropped by 43%.

In last week's Basic Income Show we discussed a new study that showed how blood plasma income (about $400/mo) reduces crime by 12%.

People shouldn't have to sell their blood for survival income, and we should acknowledge how much crime is survival crime.

Wastewater levels for Edmonton from Oct 2023 to now (Aug 1) There is a strong spike through fall 2023 into 2024, then levels are lower, with a relatively mild flu season last year. Then there is a substantial spike right at the end reaching 3/4 the 2023 spike and still climbing.
