Not really, I'd say it's more so down to laws and state capacity to deal with it.
Like Spain is a pretty rich country, and yet it still has a decent amount of squatting (although it is VERY overstated)

The same one you know from that other (formerly) Blue app "Why not be bolder if the political price is likely to be the same?"

A majority for the far-right on under 30% - but remember FPTP โprotects against extremismโ

Totally a democratic state!!!

01.08.2025 21:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Macron fundamentally differs from Starmer, Carney, etc because he believes that you can just do things and the others don't. They believe in a world order where they still have to ask daddy, Washington DC, for permission. Macron doesn't

Remember, Japan's economy is basically growing by 1% a year, followed by an economic crisis that wipes out all the growth from the previous decade
Honestly, "People's Party" would be a better name, even if it's also generic as hell
But there's loads of options that could be used, it's a shame these all suck

I wish that Von der Lyen goes "Oh no, we planned for all the investment to be done in renewable energy projects! What a shame, guess we'll be pulling out, but we still have the deal!"

Damn, I guess the voters really do stick to "Vote Blue no matter who!"
Shame not a lot of politicians are doing that
Yea, a great thing is that it'll help reduce the creeping Presidentialism we've been seeing. Since a government with more than one party in it would likely not last long if the leader of the largest party is trying to act like they're the only person in the government.
29.07.2025 19:41 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Its all through Parliament
Courts, like elsewhere, interpret the laws that the legislature writes. But unlike in the US, where the supreme court can't be overruled, Parliament could write a law saying "actually the interpretation is wrong, here's how we would do it" thereby overruling the courts
Tbf, the issue of a Reform government could be reduced if Labour decided to introduce proportional representation
So, in other words, not gonna happen
Not really, it's more so that the seats where Labour are running have little to no Lib Dem presence and vice versa.
29.07.2025 03:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Basically, in a healthy parliamentary system, parliament should be able to go "I understand what you're trying, but this isn't a good way of doing it" or even "this is a shit idea, this isn't happening". The avenues to do this clearly aren't effective enough atm, leading to laws like OSA.

Landlords don't charge what they want, otherwise they'd be charging like $10k+ a month for a studio
Landlords charge as much as they can get away with, if you build more homes, the maximum someone can charge would likely end up dropping, since the section of earners they could attract drops

1) He doesn't have the personality that either of them had (who'd be able to convince MPs through charm or fear)
2) His MPs are significantly more vulnerable to being voted out then MPs were in those previous eras, meaning they'd...
Really enjoyable article here. I was pleasantly surprised to read that many Labour MPs believed the Bill wasn't going far enough, even before the amendments wrecked it.
Starmer is delivering a fleabite to an elephant and somehow managing to pay a huge political price for it.
