You know what was a good game with good itemization? Paladins. Twenty total items each with clear and powerful effects and their own use case based on overall team composition. Four slots so you can play to your character's strengths with enough wiggle room to respond to how the match develops.

What I hear from my friends who do play is that a ton of the roster is unusably underpowered in Street Brawl because of the aforementioned MOBA sidestepping. Best case scenario for me is that they make a fully realized alternate shooter gamemode, I guess? Not holding my breath.

So I hear, but I have no idea what's supposed to be so addicting about the genre. I have never finished a match of any MOBA with anything but anger in my heart.

I have quite a bit of RTS experience. My first exposure to MOBAs was the original DOTA in WC3 customs. Didn't like them then either, and the issues that make that and other early MOBAs frustrating still haven't been addressed some twenty years later. They're just accepted as conventions of the genre

There is also, of course, the fact that half of all Source 2 games are MOBAs. The others are a VR game and Counter-Strike, which has its own problems. I'm so, so frustrated that Source 2, the fabled successor to the best game engine of all time, is being squandered like this. Fuck!!!

I played Deadlock a fair bit on 'release' and my feedback back then was that any fun I had was in spite of the MOBA elements and that I didn't like how shooting felt like an afterthought. I am very disappointed to see that they've basically doubled down on the MOBA stuff. Who likes this shit???

I just want a fun pvp shooter. I don't want to have to take an undergraduate course in moba itemization in order to play the shooter game at the base level. I don't want to have fourty-minute slog matches where I spend the whole time miserable. I don't want to get hard CC'd every ten seconds

I have to bitch about it here but I think MOBAs are universally unfun frustrating garbage and I am so angry about Deadlock because the gameplay is like precision designed to LOOK close as possible to something that I would enjoy only to add that big heaping pile of MOBA bullshit on top of it
