We live in a world that often tells us to hustle so hard we forget to breathe. So here’s a reminder from me to you (and from Cristina to you): don’t wait to start enjoying life.

For so many of us, our cultura is our grounding. Cristela brings in the sabor, our families, our neighborhoods, our música, our Spanglish jokes and she does it with the honesty of someone who’s lived it.

Cristela takes everything, love, pain, race, family, identity and turns it into laughter and connection. She reminds us Latines that even in the messiest moments of life, we don’t have to lose ourselves or our pride. She flips the script and says: we are worthy of joy, of healing, of rest.

I just have to talk about Cristela Alonzo’s new Netflix special, Upper Classy. It’s not just comedy, it’s a love letter to our community.

Yet even in this heartbreak, immigrants continue to find resilience and hope, dreaming of a better life in other places. Because our migrant stories — even when marked by heartbreak and disappointment — still hold power, agency, and courage to imagine a future where dignity is not denied.

This powerful reporting by my friend @paoramos in her recent Rolling Stone piece captures the devastation so many immigrant and refugees are experiencing today. The fear, persecution, and attacks on immigrants have made it impossible to find refuge and safety in the US.
