I am in the trenches here and yes it is exhausting. The goal I stated to my boss (because I am one of the few people here who stands between the AI hype machine and faculty/students) is that I am just trying to keep this institution from fully beclowning itself. Because that is what is going on.

It's university admins who are allowing tech bros just shoot AI BS direct into their veins....and forcing universities to adopt these platforms that are irreparably damaging to higher ed.

I say the Democrats hold out for ten days before they cave on ICE. Because it's what they know how to do.

Anyone think they can hold out longer?

I just helped my kid multiply 4 2/3 times 1 5/7 and I have to say I've never been so in agreement about not actually needing these skills in real life. I can tell because it reminded me of a couple of weeks ago when I had to fill out a check.

The semester must be beginning because I feel like I'm juggling a dozen different tasks and everything will be fine so long as none of them fall and several of them are close to falling.

My eleven year old just assured me out of the blue that he would take care of me of anything bad happens and now I'm scared to ever leave the house again.

Sitting through opening meeting for the semester. Apparently we're introducing AI in ways that will allow us to do our "real" work. Because apparently much of our jobs are not real.

I'm really gonna have to apologize for getting annoyed when four different professors in my grad program assigned Gail Bederman's Manliness and Civilization. Because some books don't stop being useful.

You could teach a reasonable US history survey by going through the different famous martyrs in American history, starting with Mary Dyer and the Salem victims and moving on from there. Not perfect but reasonable.

The ugliness is nothing new. All that's new is how quickly it unfolds.

Yes, the world is falling apart. But on the plus side, my wife just called me a slow omelet, so I have something else to tease her about for the rest of our lives.

And that, kids, is why you get married.

I have no doubt that someday historians will look back on this time, and remember it and the villains of the story will be clear, documented in all their horrors.

I just wish I knew how far away "someday" was.
