Pale skinned hand holding up the cover of the annual migration of clouds, a cream book with a magpie with green fungal hyphae coming out of it
Just finished Premee Mohamedβs The Annual Migration of Clouds. Will be staying with me for a long time. Chilling, lyrical, but with an undercurrent of unkillable hope.

gender essentialism is a trap... it is pathetic... it is embarrassing that you believe this and it is your responsibility to move out of that belief and impose it as little as possible on the people around you...

7) The Hockey Ever After series by Ashlyn Kane and Morgan James. Queer hockey romances, super fun and quick reads, always put a smile on my face.

Cover of a prayer for the crown shy. A small caravan drives towards a futuristic city. The colours cape is yellow-orange
6) A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers. I also reread Psalm for the Wild-Built. The duology is a wonderful sci-fi novella series about a monk who meets a robot and how they help each other. About taking breaks and leaning on people.

4) Not the End of the World by Hannah Ritchie. Non fiction looking at what we can do about climate change. Very much optimistic, which I feel is so needed. We need to be able to imagine a future where things are okay we can strive for.

Cover of the house on the Cerulean sea. Art of a house perilously preached on an island cliff
3) The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. Wonderful story of a man sent to check in on a home for kids with special powers. Utterly queer and moving.

Cover of a gentleman in Moscow. A man looks over the edge of a balcony in a black and white photo
2) A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. Another gorgeously written story, this time about a count sentenced to house arrest in a hotel in 1922 Russia. Over the course of the next decades he sees the changes in the country. Audiobook is fantastic.

CW for this one as it was written in the 1980s and very much is of its time re: characters and colonisation. Still, a gorgeous read. Ibbotson always writes beautifully.

1) A Company of Swans by Eva Ibbotson. Historical romance, sweeping and grand featuring ballerinas in the Amazon.
