Matt Elliott: Why dark clouds loom over Bike Share Toronto, despite its undeniable success
Adding more e-bikes certainly sounds like an admirable goal, but it comes with a downside.
My @thestar.com column this week: Bike Share Toronto is riding high but a new growth plan risks putting a proverbial stick in the spokes, with a big focus on extracting more revenue from users.
Let's not let enshittification ruin this ride.

"The chair of this committee frequently says that in Ontario, we zone for buildings, not for people. But when we have a report that says adding new buildings will create complete communities and we couldn't possibly do that in Rosedale, I wonder if that's true."

Clean Electricity Regulations bolster certainty for big investments in Canadaβs grids
The federal government of Canada reaffirmed the place of its Clean Electricity Regulations within its Climate Competitiveness Strategy.
Canadaβs Clean Electricity Regulations are a surefire way to ensure a clean power grid. Without them, Canada risks losing a competitive edge that will bolster the economy, not to mention erasing years of progress. Read more from expert @sachigibson.bsky.social β‘οΈ

Join me at my in-person Victoria Village Town Hall meeting.
There will be a short presentation regarding the proposed bike lanes on Sloane Avenue, and then the meeting will be open to discuss any issues on your mind.
Anyone in Jon Burnside's Ward. There's a meeting about a bike lane. At the last town hall of his I went to, the nimby's were out in force, ranting against bike lanes and sidewalks. So, any help from decent people is appreciated.

Thrilled to see the TTC recommend fare capping as part of the Ridership Growth Strategy, something that we have long called for as a common-sense solution to making transit more affordable!
This would replace an expensive monthly pass, that you need to pay for upfront on the same day as your rent.

Sustainable βpodsβ win Toronto public washroom design competition
The winning design from the βTO the Loo!β contest, which incorporates green roofs as well as harm reduction, safety and accessibility features, is expected to be considered by the city
Just got back from Tokyo where the public washrooms put to shame any city I've ever been to. The most basic ones were designed fairly similarly to these.
Add it to the list of things the city definitely won't do but it would be really great if they did...
