(4) This is chilling when read alongside initiation rites that usher in manhood/masculinity—here the breaking of the enslaved, the lynching of black communities, rape, (etc) are rewards that authenticate manhood, calcify gender norms, and reinstitute harm as an economic commission-condition.

(3) The police/military (etc) are thus commissioned-conditioned to harm—through opaque promises of gain and not so opaque feelings of “feeling great” for emulating the prevailing belief system.

(2) economic (payment, gain), mirroring a belief system (e.g. bell hooks’ white supremacist capitalist hetero-patriarchy), and affective/physiological (feeling, desire, dopamine, neurobiological reward).

(1) As I re-read “1492: A New World View” I am reminded of Wynter’s insistence that the enactment of classificatory schemas have very tightly entwined motivators:
