One thing led to the next, and to my great delight I now find myself the author, artist and publisher of ten original graphic novels of my own creation—with the blessing of the Murphy estate.

Years later, I eventually discovered the wonderful world of the Internet message board forums, where I found there was not only one dedicated to The Destroyer property, but the remaining co-creator of the series, Warren Murphy, was one of the regular contributors.

I grabbed one at the local Waldenbooks (now extinct) and was amazed to find it was even more fun than the movie! I noticed that they had been published regularly since the early 1970s, and set out to hunt down the nearly 100 back copies, stalking flea markets and used bookstores all over the state.

I noticed during the end credits that it was actually based on a men’s adventure novel series. At that point I had seen the film adaptation enough times to have most of the dialogue memorized, so I just had to check out one of these novels.

Q: Which author have you been introduced to through watching a film adaptation of one of their books?

One late night, I found myself watching the heavily-edited television adaptation of Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985), one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies.
