I'm a sysadmin for a medium-sized library system, as well as a retrocomputer/retrogaming enthusiast. In addition to a fair amount of original retro hardware, I also do a lot with SBCs, microcontrollers, and FPGAs.

The DS version plays very well on my Anbernic RG406V. Also have the original boxed cart on my actual DS.

Paradroyd (@paradroyd@mastodon.sdf.org) Attached: 2 images This is what BBSing at 300 baud looks like. In 1984, this was about as good as it got for me. Tonight, I needed to hit a couple of Atari / ATASCII BBSs and all I had at hand was...

Nope. Straight-up ordered it from Amazon UK. Had to retry multiple times, but I got it to work without any real shenanigans.

That second pic was supposed to be animated. I often forget that you have to post GIFs as video for them to play in-line.

Great to look at.
Unfortunately, often not great to actually try to control.

FWIW, it's not just here, either. Even on BBSs, lately I find myself second guessing responses I'm tempted to make and I just let things go by.

Yes.
The 70s and early 80s were all about cop shows. This was one of the better ones.

I left there before it was even rebranded X. It was already headed in the wrong direction well before that, IMO.

For the love of all that is holy, someone PLEASE fix the horrific single-stick controls on the MiSTer Ballezone core and replace them with a dual stick configuration!

Every cheap emulator I've had for the past 20+ years is superior to MiSTer for Battlezone because of that one single thing.

Ape Escape on the original Playstation. Very solid double jump mechanic in that one.

Also, kind of related..it also has a "slam" mechanic, where if you pull down while in a jump, it will slam down on enemies and objects.

Lots of opportunities for "Hail Mary"-type moves that can turn a run around too. Like taking a 700 series (or higher) with a 001, etc. It's hard to do, but possible.

Ah..Smartmedia. I still have several devices around that use it. One I have at hand is my original Fuji MX-1200. I bought this particular one in late January of 2000 at the nearby Walmart.I remember the date well, because it was my daughters 7th birthday and I bought it to take pictures on that day.

I was able to get Syncterm to compile on it and take it BBSing.

Compiling Syncterm was actually pretty easy.
Figuring out the combination of qualifiers I had to launch it with to get it to work on the weird screen resolution was a lot harder. But I eventually figured it out.
