I was on Medicaid and SSI many years ago after an accident. I had 2 graduate degrees and still was confused by private insurance and Medicaid insurance forms. A single parent working full time does not have many more resources to fill out arcane paperwork every 6 months to keep their Medicaid.

There is just no precedent in recent world history of an advanced industrialized country sabotaging its own scientific establishment, and destroying the base of scientific knowledge necessary for basic policymaking. An avowedly, actively anti-knowledge regime.

If the funding continues CDC and DOD personnel can continue PEPFAR. In some countries, CDC had a greater portfolio of PEPFAR programs than USAID. However with the proposed cuts to CDC there may be almost no one left to safely, efficiently, and effectively oversee the funds.
