Ohio House budget proposal includes $600 million in bonds for Browns Brook Park dome Republican leaders of the Ohio House announced their proposed state budget and within it a provision for $600 million in bonds to be issued for the Browns proposed $3.4 billion indoor stadium and mixe...

If the Cleveland Browns were a public school their report card would be garbage and Republicans would be arguing whether they deserve funding at all.

Ohioโ€™s schools need at least $666M to be fully fundedโ€”closer to $800M with inflation. But the GOPโ€™s budget only gives $226M and calls it a win. Itโ€™s not. 90% of Ohioโ€™s kids will feel the squeeze while local communities are stuck paying the price. Our kids deserve better.

Diversity isnโ€™t the threat โ€” this racist bullshit is. I'm tired of lawmakers using students and teachers as pawns in their idiotic culture wars. S.B. 113 would ban DEI in public schools to protect...who exactly? Maybe Ohio Republicans should try fixing underfunded schools instead. Just a thought.

Itโ€™s no wonder students and families want out of a state that values culture wars over their future. The Higher Ed Destruction Act is a Republican attack on Ohioansโ€”trading our future for cheap political points. Call your reps.

More than 280,000 Ohio kids would be impacted by proposed national school meal program cuts โ€ข Ohio Capital Journal A budget proposal being discussed in the Republican-led U.S. House Ways and Means Committee would chop $3 billion from school breakfast and lunch programs and impact more than 280,000 students in Ohio...

Letโ€™s call this what it is: fucking cruel.

Cutting $3B from school meals means 280,000 kids in Ohio will go hungry. Thatโ€™s 280,000 futures put at risk. Children whoโ€™ll sit in class with empty stomachs, already struggling to keep up.

This isn't policy. It's an attack on kids.

'Uninformed' and 'inappropriate': Ohio Speaker criticizes lawmaker's Holocaust comment House Speaker Bob Cupp called his fellow Republican's remarks uniformed and inappropriate.

Speaker Huffman appointed Rep. Sarah Fowler Arthurโ€”a homeschooled, non-college gradโ€”to chair the House Ed Committee. Remember her? Sheโ€™s the one who thinks the Holocaust should be taught from the Nazis' perspective. An โ€œuninformedโ€ person and โ€œinappropriateโ€ choice.

Ohio GOP continues with plan to slash public school budget, denounces current funding as 'fantasy' Ohio Republican leadership is doubling down on their threat to cut public school spending, calling the continuation of the current funding plan a "fantasy."

Doubling down. Smh

โ€œThe speaker wants to slash at least $650 million in public education spending in this General Assembly's budget.โ€

Pathetic leadership and a travesty for Ohioโ€™s public school students & teachers.

This backlash isnโ€™t just warrantedโ€”itโ€™s a call for accountability. Matt Huffman wants to defund public education. Instead of supporting the 90% of Ohioโ€™s children in public schools, he's funneling $1B taxpayer dollars into private/religious schools with no accountability.

Letโ€™s keep on them!

Arizona Regulators Closed a Failing Charter School. It Reopened as a Private Religious School Funded by Taxpayers. Arizonaโ€™s acclaimed voucher program provides zero transparency into private schoolsโ€™ history, academic performance or financial sustainability to help parents make informed school choices.

NEW: Arizona does not vet new voucher schools. Not even if the school or the online school โ€œproviderโ€ has already failed, or was founded yesterday, or is operating out of a strip mall, or offers just a half hour of instruction per morning.

Weโ€™ve lost a man who truly embodied the best of America. President Carterโ€™s life was a testament to service, compassion, & faith. He showed us that leadership is about lifting others & making the world better for everyone. We need more leaders like him, & Iโ€™m grateful for the example he set.

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs.

Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?

Ohio House panel guts bill requiring private schools to show voucher spending, give same standardized tests as public schools An Ohio House committee amended a bill that, when originally introduced, would have required more transparency for private schools that accept taxpayer-funded scholarships.

Private schools keep $1 BILLION of taxpayer money with ZERO accountability. No reporting on where that cash goes, no testing to see if kids are actually learning. This is a win for private school lobbyists and a slap in the face to every Ohioan paying the bill!

Ohio's Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, goes all-in on axing the U.S. Dept. of Education. Closing it would rip away $18 billion per year from high-poverty schools, $15 billion from special education, $28 billion from Pell Grants to help high-performing kids in poverty go to college.

20.11.2024 14:38 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 89    ๐Ÿ” 57    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 12    ๐Ÿ“Œ 11

In Ohio, 13.4% of people live in poverty, and 17.7% of our children do too. We rank 44th in health, property taxes have risen 23%, and rent is at an all-time high, while wages havenโ€™t kept up. Too many are working two or three jobs just to get by.

But these are the priorities of the Ohio GOP.

Again, Ohio Republicans are targeting vulnerable communities with harmful, divisive policies. This isnโ€™t about protecting anyone - itโ€™s about politicizing peopleโ€™s lives for the sake of division. Plain & simple.
