Poster for a talk at 'Midgard Talks 2025' on Thursday 14 August: Text: Christian Cooijmans - Postdoc, Museum of Cultural History, University of Oslo. 'The Endless Viking Age: Global Perspectives on a Premodern Past' Abstract: The Viking Age fascinates globally, often romanticised or politicised. Yet few studies explore its worldwide perception. Drawing on the Great Viking Survey with over 10,000 responses, this talk reveals new insights into how Vikings are viewed and reimagined today, showing their enduring cultural impact across diverse modern audiences. For more information and ticket prices visit our website: Midgardvikingsenter.no'
This week, our project member Chris Cooijmans will be revealing some initial results from the Great Viking Survey as part of the Midgard Talks series in Borre. Do come along if you find yourself in the area, especially if you're already at Midgardsblot next door!

Despite OP's valid point, credit to the reporters of the news article for explicitly making the point about the burial practices signalling community inclusion, an important retort of people's efforts to impose modern assumptions onto past behaviours.

A day spent in Rouen today where I’ve been acting as tour guide to some of the crew. We visited the cathedral, where Rollo and William Longsword have effigies and where there is a relic of Saint Olaf. We also went to the new Viking Cité Immersive experience which was interesting #Saga25 #MedievalSky

The stone tower at Bastrup, west of Farum on Zealand, Denmark, was constructed around 1100 AD with stones from small travertine quarries around Roskilde. The tower has a diameter of 21 m. The walls are about 6 m wide.

Thought for the day: AI is not a plagiarism machine. Instead, it is a primitive accumulation machine. It seizes wealth like an early modern English lord, a settler colonialist and other flavors of capitalist bums.

I've been reading Ada Palmer's "Inventing the Renaissance." It's been very good but slow going - which has both nothing and something to do with Dr. Palmer.
"Nothing" because it is a good book well written.
"Something" because it is (un)fortunately so well written I'm going through it with my 8yo.
