They will be discussed as tools to reengage alternative epistemologies assaulted by colonial imperialism. The tarot is an affective archive that, when supplanted with a liberatory language and framework, may challenge and delegitimize colonial structures within and without.

This talk will engage the tarot as cypher for decolonizing consciousness. Within divination one can find a dignity that is denied in dominator culture. The cards are neurological pivots, subverting the logical dominance of society and self.

I’m also excited to announce that I will be returning to the California Institute of Integral Studies @ciispubprograms in April! This two-day online workshop, three Hours Per day, Cultivating Decolonial Perspectives on Divination with Tarot, will be held from April 12-13, from 10:00am -1:00pm PDT.

For Hartman, waywardness is a mode of escape, an activity by which the Black body slips out of the trap of liberal personhood and falls into a wild and extravagant relation to beauty and freedom so clearly the 7 of swords right ?

Hartman defines ‘waywardness’ as “the practice of the social otherwise, the insurgent ground that enabled new possibilities and new vocabularies…it is a queer resource of black survival. It is a beautiful experiment in how to live.”

I coin this decan the Wayward decan. Saidiya Hartman has defined ‘waywardness’ as a form both of early 20th century criminality and of wild mobility outside of liberal structures of rule.

The Moon is in the last decan of Aquarius , shedding its light as it prepares to be renewed as a new moon on Pisces. The Moon is in its own decan here.

The decans, the cards become a codex for a critical apparatus in my work. They connect the divine to the Decolonial struggle of our times and illuminate a red path for us to continue walking down. TENZ starts Aries season

This decan is in my 9th house, of spirituality, teaching and astrology. And as is the natal promise I offer TENZ as study in the ancient astrology of decans but push it further.

Regularly and ritually burn your old sh*t. Cleanse yourself from being possessed by your possessions. Be brave and summon the spirit associated with the decan to buck with tradition and create something new, somewhere old, and the young will bless the old.

This decan calls us to consider what values are a pillar and which beliefs make the body a prison. It calls for dispossession as a truly radical anti capitalist act.

A body so tense that it can release. Here are all the hoarding old patriarchs who’d rather have dead objects than a world with trees, fresh air and family. Old, cold distant emotions and defensiveness spur from a lack of boundaries.

The moon is in the last decan of Capricorn which corresponds to the 4 of pentacles. In the smith Waite image we see a strict and severely solitary figure. His material rigidity freezes him place and it becomes an image of constipation.

Literacy is activism.
Reading is a political act.
Books are tools for liberation.
