Just finished reading "A Baseball Gaijin," by @byaaronfisch.bsky.social. The book tells the fascinating story of Tony Barnette, who played six seasons in Japan, then came back to the US pitched for the Texas Rangers. Great insights into Japanese baseball culture.

View inside a room labeled PA booth from behind a soundproof glass window. Fans can watch Rangers public address announcer Chuck Morgan do his job from the booth. A small brown conference table is placed near the glass window. The walls are lined with pennants, framed photos and cases of baseballs and other memorabilia. At the doorway is a large blue rug with a blue 1980s-era Rangers logo.
By far the coolest area at Globe Life was the window into the PA booth where fans can watch Chuck Morgan (who moderated a #SABR53 panel yesterday) work during the game.

After the Angels gave Rich Reichardt a record-high signing bonus of $205,000 in 1964, MLB owners instituted an amateur draft the next year to tamp spending. How effective was it? Over the next 22 years, only one player topped Reichardt's bonus. In '87, top pick Ken Griffey Jr. signed for $180,000.
