Maybe none of this really holds up and the difference is just Charlie's specific brand of Youth Leader Optimism reminds me directly of the toxic, tolerant, love the sinner hate the sin optimism you find in many Christians

They have the same idea, where Sinners are complex and have the capability to be Good People even after having done Bad things. But Charlie seems to believe that Bad things are Anti-Redemption instead of accepting them as a neutral part of moral complexity

Both Charlie and Emily have a naive sense of morality, but at the first sign Emily begins deconstructing what "Good" means, while Charlie wants to erase all "Bad" characteristics in people. Charlie, in a sense, is upholding Heaven's idea of a Good Person while Emily isn't necessarily

To say I never wake up feeling rested isn't entirely true. It does happen rarely. However, it only lasts two hours at most. Lasting beyond me getting out of bed is a miracle. And enough of the factors that allow me to feel rested are out of my control that I cannot choose to have restful sleep.
