Most of the skills are there for the "figuring out what's going on" and "making a plan" stages of the horror story, how well you survive is *mostly* down to using those two stages to reduce the number of rolls in the "running from monsters" stage to an absolute minimum. Old school that way.

It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.

the thing about "still gotta win elections" is that sounds all realpolitik until you realize that avoidance lets the other guys define you in your absence and "moderating" communicates that their narrative about you is correct.

This doesn't really make sense. Lawful positive change is perfectly possible under autocracy, the autocrat just has to decide to change things for the better, autocratically.

They usually don't choose to do this, but that's not the point. Democracy is about who makes those decisions.

So many folks throwing “radical anarchists” under the bus as talking points to show they’re the good guys, while they love the projects we do to support communities.

Few would ever love "reactionary" but there's a deeper refusal to accept any label because that would be conceding they are obviously just another ideological faction or political camp that can be critiqued, instead of all just the One Noble Truthteller whose opinions are simply objective reality.

It looks like the US has two major parties, one of which whole-heartedly embraces and is pushing forward with fascism, and the other exists to capture all the opposition and hold them to one side until the fascism bit is done, and then complain about it but not actually fix it. Is that how it works?

This tracks when you know she thinks the purpose of a political party is to discipline its base. In her mind the Republican Party is "weak" because it gives its voters the things they want instead of telling them to like what they're given. The fact those things are terrible is irrelevant to her.

SO easy that it seems kinda weird that they'd rather suffer the slings and arrows of all us terrible leftists than ever, ever utter those simple words, right?

Almost as if they fully intend to do those things again if they regain power and don't want to be on the record saying otherwise

Like do you just not think it's important for people with power to show good judgement in matters that affect thousands or millions of lives? Or, failing that, to own their mistakes? Has that belief led to good outcomes? Do you forsee it leading to good outcomes in the future?

Because the same people who made bad choices yesterday (that were OBVIOUSLY going to lead us to this place) are going to ask for power and permission to make equally bad choices tomorrow. Enabling them to do so is bad. Why is that confusing to you?
