Let me know if you ever manage to get Spotify to play ball with gapless. Decades after Winamp, and Vorbis I has sample-exact lengths, but they *still* can’t seem to consistently get it right. Huh. (I hear Tidal and Apple Music can and I have thought many times about dumping my Spotify sub.)

And the FabFilter tools really are absolutely exemplar — I wish I had them! Christmas list, maybe. I muddle along fine with others.

For Somnus, as i intend the tracks to flow and overlap into each other very smoothly, I’ve got a separate REAPER project for mastering it, that’s synced to the 1/75 second CD frame timescale so I can precisely chop a BIN/CUE and gapless CD ToC. (All ready for Spotify to go screw it up, of course.)

For me the challenge and the main work is in the mix, with mastering being barely there at all (unless I got click impulses in the rendering of those simulated tape loops on Somnus, which I’ve used RX to help with post-render as my CPU’s barely holding it together sometimes).

I mean, it’s just a pack of EQs and limiters and stereo manipulation and similar, at heart!

They’re reasonable ones, but it’s also no Pro-Q; and with ambient you might not need much limiting anyways, it’s more about gain staging to the LUFS you want (which may be unusual for other genres).
