The Unseen Danger of Restoring Confederate Statues and Names The move to restore Confederate names to memorials and military bases implicitly honors a perilous style of governance.

"Trump’s embrace of Confederate symbols is not only a petulant effort to 'own the libs' and demonize 'wokeism.' It is symbolic of a rule or ruin brand of politics, with a long, bloody history, that we underestimate at our own peril."--Elizabeth Varon time.com/7314031/trum...

Descendants of Georgia enslaved people wrestle with legacies of surviving plantations Georgia’s surviving plantations are places of memory and reckoning for Black families tracing their roots and reclaiming their history.

In Thomasville, GA, the privately owned Pebble Hill Plantation thrives with historical tours and event spaces. Nearby, Black residents sift through a livelihood where the estate doesn’t just loom in the background, but acts as a forefront attraction in the community. www.uatl.com/news/2025/08...

The average American simply has no idea how quickly the infrastructure that keeps us safe and healthy is collapsing. These systems run in the background thanks to government employees who quietly do critical work. Those employees are being purged and systems are being destroyed.
