So different places had a different feel, culture or/& ethos - perhaps also to what is or not deemed maleness? Not so sure as an outlier as a profession in its own right but I think I know what you mean in terms of the bigger field. Officer status is an interesting one too -how & why things. Change?

I am sorry to hear such comments you mention. Mental, health nursing & its form will be shaped by many factors, inc. historical location i.e even The Retreat, vocation/career attraction & I don't ignore your perspective of what maleness might mean (to be carefully thought through) +other factors.🤔

Yes of course fields perspectives on this point although agreeable as an overwhelming view can or may differ in their make up. It is not to take away any major or serious point but field perspectives may differ in someway - what this is i try to work out.

Mmm, I am not so sure how absolutely linear this is in terms of mental health nursing & it's tradition(history) +what this might mean? No matter how agreeable & it is, I do know field narratives can differ even if just slightly. The larger fields perhaps sometimes overwhelm other field perspectives.

If there is(was) one incremental change you could make for the better Alison, what would it be?

I always wondered if the 'threat in car parks approach' was a part of an unspoken manevolent executive (if such exists?) tool kit on how not to go about good practice & support your staff? How do you regulate power of non-execs, unless their history elsewhere comes relevantly into question? Mmmm?

It is a shame some orgs disbanded like NHS Protect in 2017 provided a useful function in recording greater accuracy of assaults on staff - what this indicates is an example of why whistleblowing is not just essential safety for patients but also staff. What ever happened to the Nursing Times SOS?

I suspect most who speak out will never be known & the Q of FTSU independence from execs & HR is possibly important to consider. The Office of the whistleblower should be given greater consideration. Do some state sponsored whistleblowers become pressurised by sponsoring execs (part of a problem?)?

There maybe always some resistance but that doesn't mean it shouldn't happen in terms of regulating exeutive levels of management. If for example you are going to introduce lean working & it fails miserably in terms of overloading small nos of clinical staff & safety: you need to be held accountable

This is an interesting article. Ideology should not prevent recognising trauma & therapy for those who have & are experiencing alienating behaviour. I think 'State Promoted Parental Alienation' is a next big thing to be looked at in terms of how state, CMS & court influence the 5Ps of mental health.

Thank you Frances, this is so important. The Mental wellbeing of Non-Resident Parents & effects on children is really important to understand. The importance to not dehumanise & deny trauma (whether debated as real) from experience is crucial for unconditional positive regard & person centred care.
