14. In fairness, 3 of them I can't eat (cottage cheese, blue cheese, grapefruit), and 1 of them I don't actually know what is in it (grits. I've never tried it). But yeah, still a lot. But also: more if I added "I'll eat it to be polite but not by choice" items. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know I am picky though.

I watched half an episode of S1 and was unable to keep watching because of the level of second hand embarrassment. I am told though that you can skip s1 and it is better from S2 onwards but have not tried it myself. My ability to cope with cringing at the screen is very very low, though.

I don't doubt there's been a change in how people are *talking* about it, but it's a change, in my opinion, more likely wrought by this weird panoptical society we've created, than by the amount of estrangement between family members in the world.

I have no idea what caused those breaks (though I can guess, based on family lore) but I am going to guess that it was just a lot easier when you could just not write or provide an address, and didn't have to block on facebook, instagram, your mobile etc etc etc.

In my completely ordinary working class family history (maternal and paternal) there are a couple of examples in my grandparents generation alone -- one guy who went overseas and sent one postcard home and then nothing until he was 80, and one who walked away at 18 and never saw his parents again.

The British press is obsessed with the Beckham kid going no contact, and I have to say I think the whole idea of this as a trend is overblown. People have ALWAYS left behind families when things didn't work out -- it was just before modern communication you just moved away and vanished.

I would say my struggle of the last ~18 months or so is determine how much news is “enough news”. Where is the line between being an informed citizen and drowning.

Have you seen the other game from the same developers, It Takes Two? I watched the same married couple gamers play through that game as well and although I don't think it's as fun as Split Fiction, it has a lot of similar many-games-in-one elements.
