One ought not be selective about due process.
One ought not say, "he's a terrorist/gang member; due process is a hindrance to justice".
Equally, one must not say, "he's a sexual harasser/white supremacist; due process is a hindrance to justice."
Justice demands due process.
I personally have liberal friends in legal academia who are not "fascists" or "Holocaust deniers" who are afraid to speak their minds on certain topics because they fear it will get them ostracised.
Feeling virtuous about creating this atmosphere of fear doesn't help.
Line graph titled "American attitudes towards free trade have rapidly polarised." It shows the share of US Liberals (blue), Moderates (grey), and Conservatives (red) who strongly approve of free trade from January 2023 to January 2025. Liberal approval rises sharply after the late 2024 election and early 2025 inauguration, exceeding 40%. Moderate approval shows a smaller increase to around 25%. Conservative approval remains low and relatively flat around 15%. The graph demonstrates a growing divergence in attitudes towards free trade based on political ideology.
US liberals haven't been very supportive of free trade over the past few years, just like US conservatives. Trump's election have led them to strongly change their minds. Now more than 40% of US liberals "strongly approve of free trade".

This scatalogical rant seems somewhat misplaced in an otherwise scholarly or at least thoughtful India Forum.

Most litigants will never end up in a high court; their cases will remain in the labyrinths of district courts. Yet, reforms at the base of the judicial pyramid have not got the required attention.

This is great for security, but terrible for transparency, esp if govts use it, as it'd allow "revocation" of emails.

But I think when people take a look at my record versus Vice President Biden’s record – I helped lead the fight against (North American Free Trade Agreement); he voted for NAFTA,” Sanders said on “Anderson Cooper 360.” “I helped lead the fight against (permanent normal trade relations) with China; he voted for it. I strongly opposed the Trans-Pacific Partnership; he supported it. I voted against the war in Iraq; he voted for it.”
Many left-leaning politicians see free trade differently. Sen. Bernie Sanders opposed NAFTA, TPP, and trade normalization with China. They and the unions might he wrong. But at least those unions are being consistent regarding what they see as their interests regardless of who is in power.
27.03.2025 10:27 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0In a Victory for Autoworkers, Auto Tariffs Mark the Beginning of the End of NAFTA and the “Free Trade” Disaster UAW Wheel logo This afternoon, the Trump administration announced major tariffs on passenger cars and trucks entering the U.S. market, marking the beginning of the end of a thirty-plus year “free trade” disaster. This is a long-overdue shift away from a harmful economic framework that has devastated the working class and driven a race to the bottom across borders in the auto industry. It signals a return to policies that prioritize the workers who build this country—rather than the greed of ruthless corporations.
American unions seem to have a different idea about free trade & tariffs from liberal American academics.
“We applaud the Trump administration for stepping up to end the free trade disaster that has devastated working-class communities for decades.” said UAW Pres Shawn Fain

False comfort that AI doesn’t work or that it isn’t getting better is pervasive on Blue Sky. As a result, people who could add important points of view to current discussions on the meaning & use of AI instead try to believe they don’t have to think about it.
Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.
Some of you say, “Joy is greater than sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.”
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
...
Gibran:
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.

Typically, a loyalty oath has wording similar to that mentioned in the U.S Supreme Court decision of Garner v. Example 2 - As noted on the UC San Diego website, diversity, equity, and inclusion are part of the University of California's fundamental mission and are integral to UC San Diego achievement of academic excellence. My commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, as demonstrated by my past experiences, align well with this philosophy. As a woman in the sciences, I have seen firsthand how the academic environment can be unwelcoming, unfair and inequitable because of not fitting into a particular gender schema. I am committed to making a difference in ensuring that everyone is given opportunities to excel in their scholarly activities.
Aren't forced diversity statements exactly like mandated anti-insurrection pledges of yore which academics challenged in courts and which were found to be unconstitutional by SCOTUS?
