I know plenty of academics (grew up in a college town) and certain disciplines always seem to be head-in-the-clouds theory-is-reality types

Academics like this spend their entire careers focused on the theoretical. How things could/should be. They have no practical real world experience and staunchly believe that their theory trumps your reality.

I got into an argument at work about this point the other week. The pro-AI argument that made me just walk away:

"Yeah, but kids today growing up with AI will love it and not care."

I confused the hell out of my partner a few years ago when I was recording scratch dialogue and kept repeating odd phrases over and over and over again.

The best line that worried them the most?

"The tingle means it's working!"

I imagine it has something to do with it being directly on the border to Mexico, and is serviced by a local airport and has the road infrastructure to move a lot of... stuff... efficiently (it's a major crossing point for truck traffic to/from Mexico)

And those idiots are usually the ones who get to keep their jobs while everyone else pays the price

I even still capitalize the I in Internet. I’m that old.

It's the struggle of all "support" roles; When done badly it's incredibly damaging, but when done well it's kind of invisible and everyone takes it for granted... again until they hit a bad one. So many devs only think of their producers when they're unhappy

Yeah, a bad producer can wreck a team and a project (seen it many times), heck I've come in after bad producers to get teams back on track. But a good producer often is kind of invisible/not noticed a ton because they're enabling everyone to focus on their IC work.

I know you can't ship a game with PMs/Producers alone. But good luck shipping a game of any size beyond tiny without one. And if you say "My team of 10 didn't have a Producer!" then I guarantee you one or more of the team was doing Producer work on top of their IC work (which has other issues).
