@henryanderson1.bsky.social from @hsj.co.uk ask whether Government will bring back PFI. And nice to be quoted! The #NHS needs more capital and this is an answer, if imperfect. Would you bring back #PFI?

09.01.2025 17:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The resilience of NHS staff in the face of decaying infrastructure is a testament to them β but itβs not sustainable.
My last article asks how we can better make the case for the investment in the NHS and how the process for securing it can improve.

Yet, as youβd expect, the overall reporting of injuries, diseases, and dangerous occurrences has risen, reflecting the ongoing deterioration of facilities.

Whatβs striking, though, is this: the NHS seems to be getting better at delivering, despite the crumbling #infrastructure:
β’ Clinical incidents due to infrastructure failures are down.
β’ Critical risk incidents have also decreased.
I think the data shows that the NHS getting better at managing failing buildings. Two years ago, I wrote about the NHS Estates (ERIC) data for 2022, when backlog maintenance costs topped Β£10bn. This year? Backlog has reached Β£13.8bn, with high and moderate risk items nearing Β£10bn alone. -> Thread

Starting the new year with my proven rail station arrival approach. EITHER 2 seconds before the train leaves OR a full hour before itβs even on the board. Get it right and, over time, you get the perfect combination of boredom and panic = energised calm. #Travelhack #UKrail

What if the NHS were to have some new year's resolutions to sort out its capital development problems? Here are my five:
