Following the Money: PFI is overdue a comeback HSJ's expert briefing on NHS finances, savings and efforts to get back in the black. By finance correspondent Henry Anderson.

@henryanderson1.bsky.social from @hsj.co.uk ask whether Government will bring back PFI. And nice to be quoted! The #NHS needs more capital and this is an answer, if imperfect. Would you bring back #PFI?

So, #NHS, how are you doing on the #NHScapital front? Drowning or waving?

NHS New Year’s Resolutions: Sorting out NHS Capital Projects The rumble of dissatisfaction with our NHS Hospital Estate is growing. Here are the new year's resolutions that I'd suggest the NHS make.

The resilience of NHS staff in the face of decaying infrastructure is a testament to them – but it’s not sustainable.

My last article asks how we can better make the case for the investment in the NHS and how the process for securing it can improve.

Dilapidated hospital buildings threaten NHS efficiency drive | Healthcare Property Health leaders respond to the publication of the Department of Health and Social Care’s latest Estates Returns Information Collection (ERIC) data for 2023/24

Yet, as you’d expect, the overall reporting of injuries, diseases, and dangerous occurrences has risen, reflecting the ongoing deterioration of facilities.

Healthcare Property has broken down this year’s numbers, but the deeper dive is a bit of a worry.

What’s striking, though, is this: the NHS seems to be getting better at delivering, despite the crumbling #infrastructure:
β€’ Clinical incidents due to infrastructure failures are down.
β€’ Critical risk incidents have also decreased.

I think the data shows that the NHS getting better at managing failing buildings. Two years ago, I wrote about the NHS Estates (ERIC) data for 2022, when backlog maintenance costs topped Β£10bn. This year? Backlog has reached Β£13.8bn, with high and moderate risk items nearing Β£10bn alone. -> Thread

Care Homes Trading Performance Review Knight Frank’s annual assessment of operating performance in the UK care home sector. The market leading report includes analysis of occupancy, fees And profitability on a regional basis.

Great report from Knight Frank with detailed benchmarking on the care home sector. Can LAs swallow fee increases related to the living wage and National Insurance? or are we facing another #SocialCare crisis? Which won't be good for #NHS flow.

Starting the new year with my proven rail station arrival approach. EITHER 2 seconds before the train leaves OR a full hour before it’s even on the board. Get it right and, over time, you get the perfect combination of boredom and panic = energised calm. #Travelhack #UKrail

Well. Joining this site has been… interesting. But I think I need to clarify. If you’re (a) a young woman looking for love, or (b) a man/bot, in a [mum’s/totalitarian regime’s] basement, cosplaying a young woman looking for love, I wish you well but I’m afraid you’ve come to the wrong place. 1/3

What if the NHS were to have some new year's resolutions to sort out its capital development problems? Here are my five:
