What do local govts in Switzerland do when theyโre unhappy with federal policy but lack formal channels to voice their concerns?
They threaten not to clear snow from the roads so federal officials can no longer reach the asylum centers they oppose. Protest as another form of intergovt lobbying!

Also, women face a much higher risk of leaving academia at the pre-doc stage, where family formation and academic uncertainty often intersect.

Importantly, this gap cannot be explained by gender differences in parenthood, career stage, productivity, or academic rewards.

We find that larger academic fields with substantial grant funding had a higher chance of selection. Plus, the initiative reinforced a stable social order among public universities, shaped by organizational size.
