This week I launched a Community Wealth Building Commission, bringing together experts and practitioners, to create a plan to build fairer local economies in York and North Yorkshire with workers and communities at their heart.

Always great to be in Scarborough. After talking to the local Area Committee about my work in the area and across the region, time for fish and chips!

At a time when Yorkshire Water customers are facing a 41% increase in bills alongside environmental failures and customer service shortcomings, the news that the Chief Executive has received additional payments is wholly unacceptable.

As Yorkshire mayors, we have requested an urgent meeting.

We are deeply disappointed that universities in the North of England, some of the best and brightest in the world, have once again been overlooked in the allocation of national innovation funding, despite their research credentials.

🏏 In the Lancs v Yorks Mayoral Cricket Match, it’s a win for Yorkshire with 4 overs to spare! Great to host Andy Burnham in Scarborough to raise awareness of my men’s mental health and movement, activity and sport funds.

Great to welcome Heidi Alexander to York to mark the electrification of the TransPennine Route between York and Church Fenton completing. I joined her as she visited York Central to see the scale of ambition we have for our city.

It’s been another busy month, as we head into August I wanted to share some of the things I’ve been cracking on with.

Today I attended the Bus Manufacturing Roundtable, hosted by Heidi Alexander & Simon Lightwood, who are both pressing to expedite new bus orders & back British manufacturing at bus builders like Alexander Dennis in Eastfield, Scarborough.

Improving men’s mental health is deeply personal to me, this morning I talked to BBC Radio York about my experiences and why my Men’s Mental Health Fund is so important to help more men across York and North Yorkshire get the help and support they need and deserve.

Really proud today to get two funds approved that are incredibly close to my heart. These funds will have a proper launch in the Autumn, but it’s great to finally confirm this work today!

Today marks a new era for affordable housing in our region. The Affordable Homes Standards establishes for the first time in York and North Yorkshire a benchmark for what affordable housing should look like. 🏡

A busy week championing investment, growth, and community in York and North Yorkshire at UKREiiF, the Mayoral Council and Council of Nations and Regions.

York and North Yorkshire is open for business, and this week I took that message to the UK's largest housing and infrastructure conference.

Today on VE Day, we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for peace and freedom.

It marked the end of war in Europe, and the start of communities rebuilding with hope.

It’s an incredible honour to represent our region at the National Service of Thanksgiving in Westminster Abbey.

One year as Mayor of York and North Yorkshire - it's been a whirlwind. I'm so grateful and proud to have had the opportunity to meet people right across our beautiful region and be the first mayor to give York and North Yorkshire a voice on the national stage.

In York and North Yorkshire, Co-operative Mayor @davidskaith.bsky.social has committed £600,000 to renovate community halls and hubs, £10,000,000 to create a Carbon Negative Challenge Fund, and aims to make the region England's first carbon negative region by 2040. 🌱

Retail crime is a blight on our high streets and our communities. North Yorkshire Police are making great progress, but there’s more to do.

Last week I attended their Retail Crime Symposium to hear how retailers, the police & others can come together to make our high streets safe places for all.

Earlier today I joined a call with the Prime Minister to discuss the government’s response to global events.

In challenging times, calm leadership matters — and regional voices must be heard.

York & North Yorkshire stands ready to back British business and drive good growth.

Today I launched my Fire and Rescue Plan, focussed on creating safe places for all across York and North Yorkshire. Everyone who lives, works, or visits our region should be safe, and feel safe. That is the heart of the plan.
