You're not less worthy or lovable when you struggle, & people who make you feel like you are do not have a role in your recovery.

28.01.2025 01:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Remember, progress in trauma recovery is very often not obvious. We tend not to notice the incremental rerouting of neural pathways & behavioral reflexes until they add up.
Don't assume that because you can't see or feel it today, it's not happening-- just stay consistent.
After trauma, we literally can't just "move on like nothing happened." If we try to continue functioning w/o acknowledging & caring for our injury, we're gonna do more damage-- like trying to keep walking on a broken leg. Denial & "good attitude" can't replace a cast & crutches.
26.01.2025 18:41 โ ๐ 108 ๐ 25 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 2Remember: we can't heal ourselves & bail on ourselves at the same time.
Also remember: Trauma Brain is real good at disguising opportunities to bail on ourselves as super inviting & soothing opportunities for relief & escape.
Stay sharp. Remember what we're doing here.
I'll spoil the suspense: you're not "ready" for recovery. None of us are, at first. We have programming & conditioning designed to keep us isolated & miserable.
EVERY successful recovery was committed to way before the survivor in question was "ready." Every one. Including me.
...plans > goals...
30.12.2024 22:01 โ ๐ 398 ๐ 96 ๐ฌ 18 ๐ 3Remember that perfectionism is a tool of trauma programming. It's a bullsh*t distraction from messy, incremental, realistic improvement. F*ck ups & course corrections are how we realistically learn & grow at ANYTHING-- especially trauma recovery. Embrace the mess. Mess is friend.

20.12.2024 22:18 โ ๐ 249 ๐ 42 ๐ฌ 8 ๐ 0We can't control the future-- which we survivors f*cking *love* being reminded of, let me tell you-- but we have our most realistic shot at INFLUENCING it by focusing on habits, systems, strategies, & tools.
I don't believe in therapy "magic." I believe in recovery discipline.
I still play then and again... it can get depressing but on the other hand it's nice to load in and help those blueberries ๐ซ โบ๏ธ
21.12.2024 15:41 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Trauma recovery self-talk sounds like, "I hate this reaction & I don't understand it-- but I choose to believe it makes sense somehow. I refuse to shame or abandon myself."
Sound cringe? That's because Trauma Brain doesn't want you talking to yourself w/ supportive realism.
The people I know who are most successful in their trauma and/or addiction recovery wake up every day & remind themselves that they are beginners in this whole "recovery" thing-- even after years-- & they're never "too smart" or "too experienced" to go back to basics.
15.12.2024 00:05 โ ๐ 63 ๐ 8 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0We do not work a successful trauma recovery by accident. Every sustainable trauma recovery begins w/ a daily reaffirmation that my life will prioritize my values, my goals, my needs, & my safety-- & an acknowledgment that doing so will not be easy, but it will be worth it.

13.12.2024 14:41 โ ๐ 69 ๐ 12 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Every time a new tool, skill, or philosophy is introduced to us, Trauma Brain is gonna give us 1,392 reasons why it "won't work" & we "shouldn't even try" it & why anyone suggesting we give it a shot "doesn't get it."
Remember: Trauma Brain is not "objective."
