Trump reached out to commentators people feel are impartial. They went for rogan, theo, and flagrant, people who the left call right-wing-shills despite being progressive on many issues. You dont win hearts and minds by telling people they're stupid, you've got to meet people where they are.

100%. Sometimes he would have (actual, credentialed) scientists on, and I'd watch those. Sometimes he'd have wackos, everyone knew they were wackos, and you'd just eat popcorn and enjoy the wackiness. Then the wackos got netflix deals, and people think they're authorities...and here we are.
