Retired megastructurist. More of a fucker-arounder and find-outer. Opinions are my own, and do not express the opinions of non-canonical dimensions.

08.02.2025 23:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've watched both the GOP & Democrats work to integrate special interests into every facet of governing and social welfare. They've made our institutions fragile. It didn't even take actions from congress or the courts to completely dismantle them.
We need a party who cares about governing.
Universal Healthcare was always such an easy win. Building a strong, capable healthcare system in the US would materially make people's lives better.
But when given the chance, the Dems chose to prop up a broken system (private insurance) with the ACA instead. That's not building an institution.
I have spent my whole life watching the GOP sabotage institutions and blame others for the effects to great success. Most people now distrust institutions, and trust the GOP.
Of course, the real bummer is that we don't have a political party who is interested in building institutions.
Can't wait for the absolute sick burns Democrats are gonna get in this week (after start of business Monday, of course). GOP is gonna have soooooooo much egg on their face when they learn about the Smoot-Howley Tariffs!!

Sure, maybe I copied you whenever you posted this a while ago, but something something great artists.
I introduced my friend to The Integral Principles of the Structural Dynamics of Flow the other day. They didn't get it.
I suspect they chose some specific disasters to focus on that either had more data or were just more in the news. Lots more to take into account (I don't see extreme cold there either, but it's definitely an issue for a lot of the midwest).

I always found it wild that product designers largely ignore the self-reinforcing forces within product design.

Amidst context-collapsed fretting of many who believe it's rational to abandon fire-prone areas for "safer" areas, I keep thinking about this project from ProPublica. It's not single disasters that present highest climate risk, it's compounding calamities.

Did I do anything on my task list today? No. But I did successfully summon a government agency to clean up a giant pile of asphalt in less than 12 hours. I'll take it as a win.

Nevermind the odd phone-induced aspect ratio of that second one, but maybe take a minute to try and follow that grain.
