You can trust that the bigots won’t miss the opportunity to spew their bile, so witnessing a room full of people speak up, shut down, and handle a bad situation, seeing community in action, was life-affirming. Your voice matters. It can change things.

Differing viewpoints and lifestyles are beautiful and crucial to a healthy community, but that acceptance does not equate to tolerance for bigotry in any way, shape, or form. Do not take your voice for granted. Do not take your platform for granted.

Playing in alt/punk spaces, it can often feel as though I’m preaching to the choir or just shouting into an echo chamber, but a show on this run proved that this is never a given. You cannot assume everyone in the room agrees with you because the truth is that they don’t.

At every gig, we take a moment before the end to say a few things. I firmly believe that no matter the size of the platform, if you have one, you should use it for some greater good.

Though the weather and government may be hostile, the kids are alright. Our first trek to Florida was a success and we are endlessly grateful to everyone who helped put this thing together, played with us, or stuck around to see us perform.
