Great episode!
Nerdy point of detail: Sam said that we don’t collect information about children’s wellbeing - but he’s forgotten that we used to. It was called the Tellus survey and it was cancelled when Gove became SoS.

Bluesky post stating: The Frog Costume has gone from $25 to almost $40 on amazon over the last week. There’s an army brewing.
I think this is intended to be an optimistic post but the idea of Bezos making even a single penny out of the resistance just generates volcanic levels of boiled piss.

So - who knows what the heck is going on in Venezuela?
Because it’s a big hole in my geopolitical understanding and - on the one hand - Trump didn’t get the prize he wanted, but - on the other hand - I’m not clear whether this selection was a dis to him or a backhanded HT.
Informed opinions pls.
Much needed. Happy weekend to you. x

10.10.2025 18:57 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0If Cream Soda is not your thing, this also works well with Ginger Beer - and if you’re feeling fancy you can stir with a lemongrass stalk/frond/wodge.
Though when I do that I swap out the Triple Sec for The King’s Ginger, or similar, which takes it even further from the original recipe.
Recipe:
15ml each (or 20ml each if you’ve had a bad week)of:
- Light Rum
- Vodka
- Tequila
- Gin
- Triple Sec
- 30ml lemon juice
- 15ml sugar syrup (or less, depending on the sweetness of your soda)
Fill a highball glass with ice, stir in all the above, then top with cream soda + a lemon slice.
Very glad to help! 😇
10.10.2025 18:46 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Bottles of cream soda, sugar syrup, tequila, gin, vodka, white rum and triple sec in a row behind a hi-ball glass containing a suspiciously pale iced tea cocktail garnished with a lemon slice, a glass straw and a silver heart-shaped swizzle stick. Half a lemon (the half I didn't squeeze into the drink) sits in front.
Life in the shoe:
I would be a fan of Long Island Iced Tea, but for the fact that I loathe cola.
So here's broadly the same drink, but made with Vanilla Cream Soda instead.
I guess that makes it a Thames Valley Iced Tea?

Given that Trump has run this entire presidency as a national and international protection racket (nice little city/state/country you’ve got there, would be a shame if etc), I’d worry more for Gaza than Norway.
If he doesn’t get his Nobel party bag he might endorse a resumption of hostilities.
Axiomatic, surely?, that if an entire nation needs to brace for the geopolitical consequences of this toddler-brained despot not getting what he wants, he can’t possibly deserve a peace prize (even if Israel does temporarily halt its genocidal actions in Gaza at his behest).

Well done that man.
And I just opened a drawer in my den to stuff some paperwork away while my laptop restarts and I've found two chocolate bars in there!!

Also - bless the darlings at HMRC for working this out - HMRC owes me about £85. So I’m starting the day in a pretty fine mood!

Apparently the existence of autumn is news now, but I guess it’s nice to see a cheery headline.

06.10.2025 20:07 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0You know, it reminds me of medieval cathedrals at this point. Huge edifices that took literal generations to complete, a vast investment of resources: time, materials, money, even lives. All for the glory of god, because people thought (as they always do) they were living in the End Times.
