It does make it a bit more slippy away from the ice and you make a clicking sound when you walk. But it's the better situation for me. If you are changing surface, you might want to look at the grips you take off and on... But I find I need somewhere to sit down to manage that.

I've got the IceBug Pytho6 BUGrip with metal studs. Basically trainers with inbuilt grips - they work really well. You can also get temporary grips to fit over your shoes from outdoor specialist shops. These are more cost effective but can be a bit tricky to get on and off! Never tried socks!

When we moved to Sweden, I was terrified of walking on the ice and very prone to slipping. I now own a pair of Icebug trainers with tiny studs (they do boots too). They have been a total game changer and my family in England now own some too (even though they have far less use out of them!).
