List of countries Trump has threatened with military action: Canada, Greenland/Denmark, Venezuela, Iran, Gaza, Russia, and Mexico. To little real effect. The rhetoric tries to make headlines and but little else. Even in Iran, the bombings so far have only reinforced a tense status quo.

U.S. poised to strike military targets in Venezuela in escalation against Maduro regime The Trump Administration has made the decision to attack military installations inside Venezuela and the strikes could come at any moment, sources with knowledge of the situation told the Miami Herald...

Miami Herald is reporting that Trump has decided to strike Venezuela.

We've seen two Trumpian military campaigns this year already (Yemen, Iran): both times they were heavy on air power, short on time, and inconclusive. Will Venezuela be the same?

I hope someone with deeper expertise than me sees this; this is from the ICE website, does it really show that ICE was *more* effective under Biden than under Trump?

This is a monumentally dumb idea that would discourage anyone from buying a home in Florida ever again. So I'm in favor of it.

Democrats in Upper Darby accuse a GOP council candidate and former police officer of racist posts Bob Yantorno initially denied the three-year-old posts on X were his, but later explained the comments reflected his "frustration and anger over the senseless violence in our community."

Bob Yantorno, a Republican candidate for a seat on Upper Darby’s Township Council, is facing scrutiny over material he posted three years ago that Democrats have decried as racist.

Venezuela looks like the Houthi hit and run campaign all over again. Big air build up, naval power, and no ground game.

School cell phone bans have spread with little hard data. A new study finds benefits and costs. Researchers studying a large urban district in Florida found modest improvements in test scores after schools banned cell phones. They also saw suspensions rise.

Here's an example of stale discourse: the narrative anchors on whether or not cell phone bans improve test scores. But cell phone bans have much greater impact beyond just tests and attendance, from reducing fights to making teachers' lives easier with discipline.

So I'm running for a school board position here in PA, and while a lot of the position is bread-and-butter issues (solar panels, new bathrooms, etc)., I'm also struck by just how *stale* education discourse seems in America right now.

Little but a pause. But Trump only cares about headlines so if the headlines aren't "war" he won't intervene much.

Syria's Sharaa tells Putin at Kremlin meeting he will respect all past deals with Moscow Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday he would honour all past deals struck between his country and Moscow, a pledge suggesting Moscow's two main military bases in Syria are safe.

Former rebel (and al-Qaeda) leader Ahmed Sheraa's diplomatic strategy is simple: normalization in every direction. Normalize with the U.S., the Israelis, the Lebanese, and now the Russians. Next step is Iran.

In a client-facing scenario outlook, we're not calling this the 'end' of the Gaza war -- it's occupation by another means. The Israelis are not showing a willingness to swiftly leave Gaza; instead, they aim to treat it like they do Lebanon, where the war ended last year, but the conflict did not.

Even worse. Doha needs a new diplomatic strategy but is stuck with an unreliable American protector for now.

It's a nice PR boost. But Qatar has been hit twice in the past six months because of American policies. I don't think Doha is thrilled when its reputation is now wrapped up with war.

A Palestinian 'Half-State' Could Reduce Violence, but Deepen Israel's Isolation | RANE Current conflict dynamics suggest an uneasy ''one-and-a-half-state'' solution may emerge, where Palestinians are granted limited autonomy in reservation-style territories under Israeli control, potent...

Second, we are drifting to a "half-state" solution in Palestine -- a reservation-style set-up where Israel denies Palestine full independence but enables localized autonomy. Less violence, and yet more isolation for Israel.

'A Little Sparta': Why the U.S.-Israeli Relationship Is Destined To Change | RANE The once-unshakable consensus on Israel within U.S. politics is fracturing under the weight of generational change, a growing values gap and a misalignment of geopolitical imperatives.

A couple of articles by me as well:

First, the drivers of the divergence between the U.S. and Israel. Repeated elections will weaken the relationship, but so too could a military crisis (like Taiwain) and/or domestic unrest/recession.

Netanyahu does not really know what he wants from Gaza except a political narrative that helps him win the next election. The one narrative that doesn't help him is the two-state solution; he will wage war on that too.

Both sides benefit from a temporary pause (for different reasons). Neither side wants to go beyond that to stabilizing Gaza into a new type of geopolitical entity.

Idk if this is serious, but Israeli politics and reliance on U.S. military aid is unique; U.S. can't manipulate Russia the same way, and must escalate to force a change in Russian behavior.
