Israelis Begin to Question the Morality of Their War in Gaza The news on Israel’s main TV channel had just finished a segment on how hunger in Gaza is portrayed around the world when the anchor looked up and said: β€œMaybe it’s finally time to acknowledge that th...

Starvation, as it turns out, is not a politically viable tactic, even for an Israel that has turned more right-wing.

That is not the same as saying they're ready for the war to end.

Look to elections next year for that.

Overdue. Targeting Netanyahu has always made the most political and strategic sense to both protect Gazans and secure Israel's own long term interests.

Trump's general disinterest in human rights is often driven by what he sees on TV; when the media plasters obvious abuse, he takes temporary notice.

He does not take responsibilty for his role in enabling such abuse, however. Because why would he?

Flint Finishes Lead Pipe Replacement in Historic Milestone A decade after lead contaminated water was found in Flint's water system, the legal battle to replace lead water pipes is finished, a landmark milestone for a city defined by its dangerous water.

Earlier this month, Flint, Michigan finished replacing its lead pipes to ensure clean drinking water for the community.

Congratulations to the residents, activists, and public servants who made this happen. www.nrdc.org/press-releas...

I feel like people don't appreciate that work-life balance also lost in November. The people who backed Trump want everyone back in the office and doing nothing else with their lives.

A baby boy dies as starvation spreads across Gaza Doctors and aid groups warned of a hunger crisis now reaching a crescendo in the besieged and bombarded Palestinian enclave.

In March, Israel openly weaponized aid into Gaza; the aim was simple, deprive the population of basic goods to force them to turn on Hamas.

Hamas has not moved much under this pressure; they too are willing to starve Gazans to maintain their political goals.

Without immediate intervention, the last reporters in Gaza will die
July 21, 2025

AFP has been working with 1 writer, 3 photographers and 6 videographers, all freelance, in the Gaza Strip since its staff journalists left in 2024.

Along with a few others, they are now the only ones left to report what is happening in the Gaza Strip. The international press has been banned from entering the territory for nearly two years.

We refuse to watch them die.

One of them, Bashar, has been working with AFP since 2010, first as a fixer, then freelance photographer, and since 2024, as lead photographer. On July 19th he managed to post a message on Facebook: β€œI no longer have the strength to work for the media. My body is thin and I can’t work anymore.”

Bashar, 30, works & lives in the same conditions as all Gazans, moving from one refugee camp to another under Israeli bombings. For > a year he’s lived in utter destitution, working at extreme risk to his life. Hygiene is a major issue for him, with recurring bouts of severe intestinal illness.

Since Feb, Bashar’s been living in the ruins of his home in Gaza City with his mother, 4 brothers & sisters and the family of one of his brothers. Their house is devoid of any furnishings, except a few cushions. On Sunday morning, he reported that one of his brothers had β€œfallen, due to hunger.”

Even though these journalists receive a monthly salary from AFP, it’s no longer enough to buy food, or they have to pay completely exorbitant prices. The banking system has collapsed, and those who exchange money via online bank accounts charge a commission of up to 40%.

AFP no longer has the ability to provide them with a vehicle and there is not enough fuel to allow these journalists to travel for their reporting. Driving a car means becoming a target for Israeli airstrikes. AFP reporters therefore travel on foot or by donkey cart. (alt txt continued in next post)

As Gaza reports more child famine-related deaths, it's very hard to see Israel beating the ICJ genocide case, and increasingly hard not to see the EU -- and Germany, Israel's key tank part supplier -- from needing to enact arms embargoes.

Sheraa's governing model is still developing, but it's quite likely to be reliant on the same harsh tactics to control dissent as HTS demonstrated in Idlib. It's not as severe as Assad, but it's also not going to be tolerant of powerful opposition either.

In case we're overlooking the still very violent war in Gaza.

The dynamics have not shifted; Israel won't leave and neither will Hamas.

In #Suwayda, tribal fighters started assault on the Western front, taking several villages.

Some want to ensure safe exit of Bedouins trapped in the province by Druze fighters; others seek revenge.

Here in Delco, PA, the Trump White House is holding up $1.5 million to our local school district; why? 'A radical left-wing agenda,' they say, including supporting LGBTQ students and immigrants. Upper Darby is a township of immigrants, and so are its schools.

Opinion | A New Palestinian Offer for Peace With Israel Hebron’s sheikhs propose to leave the Palestinian Authority and join the Abraham Accords.

This is making the rounds; it is not particularly workable, not least of all because Israel does not want to dissolve the PA and be responsible for the security vacuum that would be created.

But Israeli far-right ideologues do dream of Palestinian reservations; this would be close to it.

The Senate just passed the Republican tax bill 51-50 thanks to a tie-breaking vote from JD Vance.

Lisa Murkowski voted YES on the bill.

The three Republican NO votes:
Thom Tillis
Rand Paul
Susan Collins

All Democrats voted against the legislation.

Why Did a 75-Year-Old Man in Poor Health Just Die in ICE Custody? Isidro Perez came to the United States from Cuba nearly 60 years ago. This is who Stephen Miller is going after now?

Just awful: A 75-year-old man just died in ICE custody, ICE has revealed in a notice to Congress.

But here's the rub: This man, a Cuban national, was first paroled into the US in 1966β€”nearly 60 years ago! They were set to deport him anyway.

All of a sudden the IC is conforming to the White House's narrative.

One of the reasons we moved out of NYC is because of childcare costs (it was $2200, more like $2000 with my wife's employee discount). That was in 2017; God knows what it is now.

Mamdani's pledge to do something about this is pretty huge, esp. since Sinema and Manchin killed the Biden push on this
