List of countries Trump has threatened with military action: Canada, Greenland/Denmark, Venezuela, Iran, Gaza, Russia, and Mexico. To little real effect. The rhetoric tries to make headlines and but little else. Even in Iran, the bombings so far have only reinforced a tense status quo.

I hope someone with deeper expertise than me sees this; this is from the ICE website, does it really show that ICE was *more* effective under Biden than under Trump?

This is a monumentally dumb idea that would discourage anyone from buying a home in Florida ever again. So I'm in favor of it.

Venezuela looks like the Houthi hit and run campaign all over again. Big air build up, naval power, and no ground game.

School cell phone bans have spread with little hard data. A new study finds benefits and costs.
Researchers studying a large urban district in Florida found modest improvements in test scores after schools banned cell phones. They also saw suspensions rise.
Here's an example of stale discourse: the narrative anchors on whether or not cell phone bans improve test scores. But cell phone bans have much greater impact beyond just tests and attendance, from reducing fights to making teachers' lives easier with discipline.

So I'm running for a school board position here in PA, and while a lot of the position is bread-and-butter issues (solar panels, new bathrooms, etc)., I'm also struck by just how *stale* education discourse seems in America right now.

Little but a pause. But Trump only cares about headlines so if the headlines aren't "war" he won't intervene much.

In a client-facing scenario outlook, we're not calling this the 'end' of the Gaza war -- it's occupation by another means. The Israelis are not showing a willingness to swiftly leave Gaza; instead, they aim to treat it like they do Lebanon, where the war ended last year, but the conflict did not.

It's a nice PR boost. But Qatar has been hit twice in the past six months because of American policies. I don't think Doha is thrilled when its reputation is now wrapped up with war.

Netanyahu does not really know what he wants from Gaza except a political narrative that helps him win the next election. The one narrative that doesn't help him is the two-state solution; he will wage war on that too.

Both sides benefit from a temporary pause (for different reasons). Neither side wants to go beyond that to stabilizing Gaza into a new type of geopolitical entity.

Idk if this is serious, but Israeli politics and reliance on U.S. military aid is unique; U.S. can't manipulate Russia the same way, and must escalate to force a change in Russian behavior.
