All the bike and pedestrian infrastructure in the world will not do people any good unless a city has an efficient and accountable maintenance plan.

I have experienced a huge increase in terrifyingly close passes since the bike lanes filled with chunks of ice, forcing me onto the middle of the road. I'm seriously concerned that someone is going to get hurt.

Cycling advocates warn there will be more angry drivers this winter After council voted to leave out snow removal for on-street bike lanes from the 2026 budget

New @taypace.bsky.social article outlining the many concerns around council’s decision to not plow bike lanes this winter, with some insightful feedback from @activeguelph.bsky.social & @bicyclemayorguelph.bsky.social. This is a mistake and a liability. #Guelph #cycling @thebikinglawyer.bsky.social

Yup, heard about this from friends in Guelph. Very upsetting. You spend money on infra and encourage people to use it, but then cut funding to keep it safe an useable all year? What a waste or resources and potential hazard. If anyone is injured as a result, they should call us.

Vision Zero doesn’t discourage people from moving by a certain mode. It demands we make movement safe. Winter cycling is only β€˜unsafe’ when the city chooses not to maintain safe conditions. Not maintaining infrastructure and then blaming the people who use it is the opposite of Vision Zero.

And just like that, Guelph bike lanes will no longer be plowed.

An entire mode of transport has been made less accessible and more dangerous as cyclists will be forced to ride in the middle of the road with limited daylight.

This decision puts lives at risk.

I hope Gibson, Richardson, @camguthrie.bsky.social, Billings, Chew, Busutill, and Hauser don't mind me riding in the middle of the lane when our bike infrastructure is full of snow.

Guelph, Ontario (a small city near Toronto) votes against providing cyclists the same basic winter services that are provided to drivers and pedestrians.

Calvin knows that one more lane never fixes car traffic and we should prioritise AAA cycling infrastructure instead.

Proposed #MunicipalBudgetCuts in #Guelph

No winter maintenance for on street bicycle lanes means I'll have to take the lane in one of our major corridors.

Don't honk at me I'm balancing the municipal budget! 😳

On Aug 29, a cyclist was killed at Elmira Rd N & Massey Rd in Guelph.

On Oct 18, we’ll ride together to honour their life and install a ghost bike donated by ARC - Advocacy for Respect for Cyclists to call for safer streets for everyone who walks, wheels, and rides.

Latest bit of Montreal 'bikelash' sidesteps the facts to please bike-lane haters The findings of a study about bike lanes vs car infrastructure have been twisted by a Montreal publication in a cheap bit of bikelash.

Here’s a good example of calling out liars lying about better city-building, via @taylornoakes.com in @cultmtl.com:

People who hate on others for enjoying a different kind of bicycle are doing the work of the auto lobby. All cyclists are beautiful.

I’ve seen SO many β€œmixed bike” couples out and about - one partner on a regular bike, one on an ebike. I love that this technology makes it so people with different physical abilities can ride together.
