Our Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows (SURFOs) worked alongside #URIGSO faculty/student mentors on projects ranging from modeling acidification in Narragansett Bay to training an AI algorithm on deep-sea footage, analyzing squid behavior, mapping the seafloor, culturing diatoms, & more.

U.S. early-career researchers struggling amid chaos Uncertain funding, government firings, and distressed universities hit vulnerable groups especially hard

A whole generation of early career scientists and physician-scientists, including colleagues and myself, are particularly vulnerable to these funding freezes and cuts, with jobs and careers depending on federal grants.

New research presented at #AGU24 suggests that while some marshes may release carbon, they may also gain an enhanced capacity to store methane. In @eos.org, #URIGSO's Erin Peck notes that the findings challenge assumptions that sea-level rise hinders marshes’ carbon absorption. 🌊
