When you learn, with relatively short notice, that you need to move into a hotel for a few days while the house is treated for termites. On a good day you remember to bring the cats along with you.

We woke up in the middle of the night to the unmistakable sound of a cat vomiting. This morning I found myself thinking that I should leave the evidence in place, and draw chalk outlines around it, as a kind of art installation. I'm trying, and failing, to articulate what's wrong with this reaction.

Pasta dough post-roller, cut, and rolling into a rigatoni shape.
Finished rigatoni tubes standing end-up on a cookie sheet, drying a bit before boiling.
The meal. Rigatoni baked with cauliflower and cheese, topped with parsley, with home-made focaccia on the side (all Sim's handiwork except the fresh pasta).
Sim wanted homemade rigatoni for a recipe he was making. I went from 'no way in hell I'm taking that on' to watching youtube videos and deciding I was already an expert. Also a glimpse of my very first manicure.
