I must say though that I have some sympathy for the town. There are a LOT more boondockers than there used to be and many are quite entitled & inconsiderate - running generators etc. Hubbie & I used to boondock often but there are many fewer places to go now because locals have become fed up. :-(

Liverpool actually has such a facility. I’m not sure who owns and operates it but I suspect it generates a fair bit of traffic for local businesses. Maybe Lunenburg officials should consult with Liverpool folks.

Years ago, we rented a camper van to explore northern California. Several of the places we visited had RV parking lots for overnight stays. They even provided access to showers for a fee. It was nice being able to stay in town so we could go out for dinner, etc. without driving anywhere afterwards.

Not a lot of imagination on the part of the town. It’s all well & good to tell folks to stay at campgrounds but there aren’t many & they’re mostly all booked out months in advance. Why not provide overnight parking for RVs somewhere nearby? The town could charge fees to cover costs & limit stays.

I wrote this article because the BC Government did something critical in 2022, they passed medical oversight reform that stripped physicians of the total impunity they enjoyed under the false premise of β€œself-regulation.” This is good. Especially in light of total professional collapse in the US.

Agreed. But it begs the question why government won’t marshall resources to ensure the public continues to have access to some trails at least - particularly those frequented by commuters and dog walkers.

Likely. The province largely self-insure so there’s nothing to fall back on when/if the worst happens. I suspect the real reason for blocking access to the woods is NS doesn’t have enough gear of its own to fight a major fire & there’s little available to borrow given all the fires elsewhere.

Sorry l, but I don’t buy it. Local parks on the river are closed here - despite the fact firefighters would have ready access to all the water they’d need to fight a fire if one broke out. The decision to allow Wentworth bike park to operate is deeply problematic in my view.

Definitely, it’s political. If a fire breaks out, it will be loval volunteer firefighters dealing with it, not the business owners.

The card is made of papers painted and decorated using various techniques, then collaged to create a colourful orange, pink and red flower on a purple background. A banner across the top reads β€œHappy Birthday, Lexie!”

This is the card. I think it turned out pretty well.

It’s already been a large day and it’s not over. Got most of my garlic out of the ground, made sourdough, walked the dog, made a birthday card for my niece, shopped for birthday gifts and groceries and dealt with correspondence. Now, it’s off to the firehall.

Two slices of jalapeΓ±o cheese bread sit on a plate heaped with grilled slices of zucchini and halloumi cheese. It doesn’t look like much but it tasted wonderful!

For those following along, my meals this week have been quixotic at best. Fortunately, I found the time & energy to do a little better tonight - voila grilled zucchini & halloumi on homemade jalapeΓ±o cheese sourdough finished with fresh oregano, garlic scape salt & a drizzle of balsamic. Yum!

For the first time, N95s would be expected for all healthcare workers, patients, and visitors β€” unless equally protective substitute measures are in place.

Final paragraph:
To our knowledge, this is the first national standard of its kind β€” anywhere in the world.

β€œDon’t look for loopholes. If you have to ask your question, β€˜should I or could I,’ the approach is probably don’t do it," Natural Resources Minister said.

Effective 4 pm today, Nova Scotians are supposed to stay out of the woods under new restrictions intended to prevent wildfires.

I remember it too. Especially here in NS, where we had real leadership for a time, we pulled together to keep people safe while
Operating as normally as possible. All that went out the window as soon as Houston came to power. It sickens me folks seem okay with all the death & illness since then.

As others are saying in the quotes, the rich and powerful were extremely threatened by that solidarity. And especially the fact that workers - disabled or not - managed to claw back a very small amount of power (in the US, anyway).

ANALYSIS | What strong mayor powers could mean for N.S. government and why they might be granted | CBC News Halifax Regional Municipality Mayor Andy Fillmore, Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston and Municipal Affairs Minister John Lohr have all talked recently about the potential of creating strong mayor powers...

β€œFillmore's overt pursuit of strong mayor powers risks creating the perception that he's incapable of advancing an agenda and building consensus around the councilΒ table without the intervention of the provincial government” -Tom Urbaniak

Only a weak mayor needs authoritarianism to steer policy.

This is an excellent point. Stable and proper cell phone and internet service is a necessity for employment, safety, education, and just keeping connected. There are so many parts of #NovaScotia that don't have adequate cell phone or internet coverage.

It is so fucking hard to combat misinformation when our mayor is one of the main people spreading it. I am so fucking tired of this bullshit.

Hubby’s still away so tonight’s supper was a simple homemade guacamole with a bowl of nacho chips. Maybe I’ll cook some actual vegetables tomorrow. Lol! Planning lunch on a patio my mum so I should get at least one proper meal.

It’s not so much the scrapping of bike lanes than its utter disregard for science that haunts me:

Their efficacy in reducing car congestion & air pollution while increasing in-person visits to shops is not opinion, but fact.

Meanwhile, the climate teases an impending crisis. Madness. #CdnPoli
