Sometimes it is helpful to be married to someone who grew up under authoritarianism & other times it is horrifying.

Saw this tonight & would have enjoyed it more had it not been so eerily current.

University leadership in U.S. seems to be finally speaking up. That's a good thing, I guess, but we remember their silence regarding attacks on trans folk, DEI, human rights etc.
Indirects on grants are important, but I wish it didn't take that to move the people who lead our institutions on issues.

Grateful to have the privilege to be in the classroom with undergraduates. Our conversations bring light into otherwise dark days.

๐Ÿšจ The CDC website is purging resources on LGBTQ+ health, diversity, equity, and health disparities. This is not just a bureaucratic change. Itโ€™s a dangerous decision with profound negative public health consequences. Letโ€™s break down the harm this will cause. ๐Ÿงตโฌ‡๏ธ

Itโ€™s been a really hard day. I appreciate all the advice on how to survive these times. Much of it is also sounding patronizing especially when it comes from people with significantly more privilege than me. May I learn from this, so I do not do it to others.

Do people even understand the meaning of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, justice?

Decades of doing this work, I know many really smart & kind people do not.

Webinar
PARENTING TRANS KIDS IN TOUGH TIMES
January 30, 2025 (Thursday)
4PM - 5:30PM PST
EVENT DETAILS
Policies and laws that deny transgender kids recognition, inclusion, support and access to gender affirming healthcare have been passed in many U.S. States as well as the Canadian Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Parents of trans kids in states and provinces where anti-trans policies and laws have been adopted and those who live in 'safe places for now but fear this changing are understandably very concerned about the safety and wellbeing of their kids. Anti-trans laws and policies are not supported by evidence but they signal to the public that transgender kids are an appropriate target for hostility and exclusion. Scholarly research indicates that best practices for the well-being of transgender kids (and cisgender kids too) include the right of all children to gender self-determination, the importance of family support and advocacy, the appropriateness of institutional support and inclusion, and access to affirming healthcare for kids who need it.
The purpose of this webinar is to provide parents of trans kids with resources to help you understand the current political moment and support and advocate for your kids.

Assistant Professor of Queer Studies in Education, University of Regina

I am posting this not just because my husband is a damn genius (though he is) but because I think a whole heck of a lot of people are very reasonably worried about this right now, and this trans-led workshop will be helpful:
